It was drawn for deserts and loose ground, and it is listed here for a supercharged road bike that will spend nearly all its life on tarmac. So the honest opening is a warning rather than a pitch — for most ZH2 owners this is not the right panel. It is also cheaper than the standard P08 for the same airbox, about two thirds of it, which means cost cannot be allowed to decide anything here.

Key Features

Dry polyester special non-woven filtering down to 7 microns, the finest step in the range

Rated at 560 l/m²/sec, correspondingly the lowest flow figure of the media

No oil anywhere in its life, so nothing can migrate from it into the intake

About twice the filtering surface of the usual performance element

Direct replacement in the series airbox, with no cutting and no remap

Washable and reusable rather than disposable; two years of warranty from purchase

A cost paid every second against a benefit paid only sometimes

The two halves of this trade run on different clocks, and the asymmetry is the whole decision. Flow given up is given up continuously — every kilometre, in clean air and dirty. Retention gained is collected only where there is something to retain: the dust behind a farm vehicle, a gravel road, a dry harvest week. A machine that meets those conditions twice a year pays the fixed cost for twelve months to collect a benefit measured in hours. Fitting the PM197T12 makes no standard ZH2 noticeably stronger either, as no series-airbox panel ever has.

The narrow case where it is the right panel

It does exist. A ZH2 used where the tarmac stops and starts again — long unsealed access roads, construction seasons, dry months that leave a haze of mineral dust — runs in conditions the P08 weave was not drawn for, and there the fine fraction a coarser cloth passes is exactly what wears bores. It matters more on this bike than on most, because a compressor sits between the filter and the engine. For part-year use the sensible arrangement is two elements swapped by season, not one compromise held all year.

Care and cleaning

Compressed air does nearly all of it, held against the clean face so the dust leaves the way it came in instead of being driven deeper into the mat — which matters more on a fine non-woven than on a weave. After a dusty stretch, lukewarm water with a little mild detergent finishes the job; rinse until the water runs clear. Drying is by moving air alone: no heat gun, no oven, no flame. It returns to the box dry and unoiled. The maintenance sheet is under the Downloads tab.

Fitment & Compatibility

Made for the series airbox of the Kawasaki ZH2 from 2020 to 2026, the single machine on this code, as listed under the Fitment tab. The same box takes the P08 and the F1-85 racing cloth at the opposite end, so the choice is between settings rather than between grades.
