DescriptionThe whole story▼
Benelli's TRK 502 is an adventure-styled tourer with a parallel twin, and it is often loaded up for the long haul: two riders, side cases, a top box and a tank bag. With that much weight at the back, the rear brake gains importance, because the load presses the rear tyre into the road and lets it take a bigger share of the braking. Before a holiday, the rear circuit therefore deserves as much attention as the front. For the TRK 502 with ABS of 2017 to 2019, Accossato lists the TS012, an aluminium rear reservoir cap, CNC-machined and anodised.
Key Features
- Rear brake fluid reservoir cap for the Benelli TRK 502 with ABS, 2017 to 2019
- Designed for the original rear reservoir, according to Accossato
- Aluminium, CNC-machined, anodised
- Seven colours: silver, black, red, gold, blue, green, orange
- Also catalogued for the Leoncino 500 and the Ducati Hypermotard 950
- Fit to be confirmed on Accossato's application list
- No German ABE documented; intended for track use
Construction and Material Quality
On the TRK 502, the TS012 changes nothing but the top of the rear reservoir. Accossato makes it for the original reservoirs of the bikes on its list, so the ABS brake system keeps its standard master cylinder, hose and caliper. The cap itself is aluminium, machined on CNC equipment and anodised in silver, black, red, gold, blue, green or orange. With age, the original diaphragm or seal under the old cap can harden; inspect it while the reservoir is open, and replace it rather than refit a tired one.
Two Up, Cases On
A tourer ridden solo on a Sunday and the same tourer on the first day of a long holiday are almost different machines. With a passenger and full luggage, the TRK 502 sits lower at the rear and leans more on its rear brake, especially on long descents where the rider keeps the speed in check through one bend after another. That extra work produces heat, and old fluid, which has taken up moisture over time, copes with heat less well. So check the rear reservoir in the week before you leave, not on the morning of departure. With the bike upright on level ground, the level should sit between the marks and the fluid should be light in colour. If the last change is older than the interval in the owner's manual, have it renewed before the trip. When fitting the TS012, cover the paintwork nearby with a cloth, keep the reservoir open only briefly, wash off any spill with water and fasten the cap without force. Then press the pedal a few times with the bike at rest. Only once it feels firm is it time to carry on packing the cases.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's list names the TS012 for the TRK 502 with ABS from 2017 to 2019, in place of the cap on the original rear reservoir. The same cap is catalogued at Inter-Pace for the Leoncino 500 and for Ducati's Hypermotard 950. Accossato lists no other cap for this TRK 502 at present. Compare the reservoir on your bike with the application list before ordering; that is particularly worthwhile if parts of the rear brake have been replaced.
Road Approval
Neither an ABE nor a test mark has been documented for the TS012, which is why our listing is for racing and competition.
