DescriptionThe whole story▼

Supermoto mixes two worlds on one track: fast tarmac corners and a section of dirt, often with a jump, ridden on the same bike and the same tyres. The SWM SM 500 R is built for that mix, and its clutch lever is busy from the start to the last corner, through every slide into a turn. Accossato's C7182 is a folding clutch lever for the SM 500 R, listed for the 2016 and 2018 model years. It is CNC-machined in Italy from Ergal 7075, has a long blade for four fingers and can fold at a hinge in a crash.

Key Features

  • Folding clutch lever for the SWM SM 500 R, model years 2016 and 2018
  • Fits the original clutch control in place of the standard lever
  • Long blade laid out for four fingers
  • Anti-break hinge between base and blade
  • CNC-machined from solid Ergal 7075 in Italy
  • Dark base, blade in black, blue or orange
  • No German ABE documented; for closed circuits and off-road use

Construction and Material Quality

On a supermoto the clutch lever is in almost constant use, so what it is made of matters. Accossato machines the C7182 on CNC equipment in Italy from solid Ergal 7075, one of the strongest aluminium alloys in common use, with the declared aims of strength, low weight and reliability. The lever consists of a dark base, which stays on the pivot, and a hinged blade in black, blue or orange. Its long blade is intended for four fingers, which suits riders who keep the whole hand on the lever while braking into a corner.

Tarmac, Then Dirt

The tarmac part of a supermoto lap is where the clutch does its most unusual work. Braking hard for a corner, riders pull or slip the clutch to stop the rear wheel hopping under engine braking and to let the bike drift into the turn. Then the clutch is fed back out as the throttle opens. In the dirt section the job changes again: short bursts of drive onto a jump, careful control through a loose turn and a quick fan of the lever if the rear tyre spins on the change back to asphalt.

Crashes in supermoto are mostly low-sides on tarmac. The front or rear lets go, the SM 500 R drops and slides along the surface, and whatever sticks out grinds against it: footpeg, bar end, lever. Even when the rider walks away, a clutch lever that has broken off leaves the bike stranded on the circuit. The hinge on the C7182 gives the blade a chance to fold forward when it strikes the ground rather than taking the full force at its tip. It will not always help, and a long slide will still scar the aluminium, but it may be what gets you back into the race.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the C7182 for the SWM SM 500 R of 2016 and of 2018; the 2017 model year is not part of the listing, and no other years are named. The lever fits the original clutch control. For the front brake the range offers nothing for this machine, so the C7182 is the only Accossato lever the SM 500 R can take from it.

Road Approval

No German ABE is documented for the C7182. The SM 500 R is a road-registered supermoto, but with this lever it is not approved for public roads. It is intended for closed circuits, supermoto racing and off-road use.

Scope of Delivery
