DescriptionThe whole story▼
Mountain passes show a big four-cylinder engine at its most useful, and not only on the way up. On the way down, a lower gear lets the engine take over a good part of the braking and saves the brakes for the hairpins. Every one of those downshifts runs through the clutch. Accossato's ESS248 is a CNC-machined aluminium clutch lever for the GSX-S950, listed from 2022 to 2026, with adjustable reach and blades in up to three lengths.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the Suzuki GSX-S950, 2022 to 2026
- Fits the original clutch mounting
- Adjustable distance to the grip
- Short, standard (about 138 mm) and long, depending on colour
- Aluminium, machined on CNC equipment, anodised
- Black hub; blade in black, blue, red, orange, gold, silver or green
- Fixed blade without folding mechanism
Construction and Material Quality
The ESS248 is a machined lever. Accossato cuts it from aluminium on CNC equipment, then anodises it so that the hub, with the pivot and the reach adjuster, turns black and the blade takes on the colour you picked. Anodising hardens the surface as it colours it, and because nothing is painted on, there is nothing to peel. The blade is rigid and fixed to the hub, with no folding joint to introduce play into the clutch.
Down the Pass on Engine Braking
For long descents, the old advice is to ride down in the gear you would use to ride up. On the GSX-S950 that often means second or third, with the engine holding the speed and the brakes used briefly before each bend instead of constantly. The downshifts are the delicate part. A big four gives strong engine braking, and if the clutch comes out abruptly after a change down, the rear tyre can hop or slide just as the bike turns in. The answer is a smooth, slightly slower release, combined with a blip of the throttle to lift the revs, and both are easier when the lever sits where your fingers can control its return precisely. Set the ESS248 so that take-up begins in the middle of the fingers' travel rather than at the very end of it. On long descents the lighter pull of the long blade helps too, because the left hand is at work at every hairpin, and a relaxed hand makes smoother changes than a tired one.
Fitment and Compatibility
On the GSX-S950, the ESS248 covers the model years 2022 to 2026 in Accossato's catalogue and goes in place of the original lever at the clutch mounting. The EDF014 brake lever stops at 2024 in the same catalogue, which leaves the 2025 and 2026 GSX-S950 with the clutch side only. All three lengths are made in blue, gold, green and orange.
Road Approval
Because a German ABE is not documented for the ESS248, the lever is sold for circuit use.
Scope of Delivery
The ESS248 arrives by itself in an Accossato box, anodised and sized as ordered.
