Sprint Filter's P14 medium normally ends up in singles, twins and small commuters — machines that live in the middle of the rev counter and never miss a filter that flows less. The CBR650R is not one of those. It is a faired four that makes its power high up and gets ridden there, which makes this the awkward page in the P14 catalogue: the flow handed back is paid in a currency this engine spends. Worth saying first: the element suits a good number of CBR650R owners and is the wrong pick for the rest, and the line between them is drawn by roads, not by the motorcycle.
Key Features
- Special non-woven medium, dry from first fitting to last cleaning — no oil in the intake at all
- 14 µm filtration with 1,800 l/m²/sec of flow, Sprint Filter's setting for dust and daily traffic
- Slots into the series airbox of the CBR650R, ducting and standard mapping left as they are
- About double the amount of medium a normal performance element gives you to work with
- Regenerated with compressed air and used again, so the airbox stops being a shopping item
- Made to see out the life of the motorcycle, backed two years from the day of purchase
The two figures, pulling in opposite directions
Set against Sprint Filter's woven P08 at 80 µm and 5,050 l/m²/sec, this medium reads 14 µm and 1,800 l/m²/sec. Finer means more held back, and more held back means less passed through. No version of that makes one simply better; the question is which side of the exchange your riding needs. On most machines the surrendered flow sits in a range they never visit. A 650 four does visit it, so the recommendation splits: for the owner whose weekends are mountain roads ridden hard, or a set of track days, the P08 element for this airbox is the better balance, and gives up no filtration you would notice on the road.
The case for the finer medium
The other owner is the one this element was drawn for. A CBR650R on the same commute five days a week, touring through the driest weeks of summer, held in traffic behind lorries, parked on gravel — that motorcycle draws a steady load of fine mineral dust, and fine is the part that counts: whatever settles out of the air in seconds never reaches the intake anyway. Filtration works in every second of running; the flow difference is only paid at wide throttle high in the range. Weigh both against the hours you actually ride.
Care and cleaning
Servicing the PM201P14 is a dry job. Compressed air on the clean side, worked outward so the dirt leaves the way it came, covers normal use. After a dusty or wet season, wash it: lukewarm water, a mild detergent, rinsed until nothing more comes out. Let it dry in open air, unhurried — heat wrecks this material, so keep hairdryers, heat guns and flames away. Refit it fully dry, nothing applied to the surface. The cleaning sheet from Sprint Filter is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Honda CBR650R, model years 2019 to 2026. The element covers two machines: this one and the naked CB650R built alongside it, sharing the same airbox. Both appear in the Fitment tab.
