The short-case version of Spark's approved Grid-O kit for the middleweight Duke. Forty millimetres less silencer per side, two hundred grams less on the motorcycle, and the same 1,106 euro as the long one.

Forty Millimetres

The difference between this kit and GKT0110TOM is case length and nothing else. Both use the Grid-O silencer, both mount high on each side, both connect the same way and both carry an approval. At 175 mm the case ends roughly level with the tail rather than reaching past it, which is a proportion decision more than an engineering one.

The shorter case does take the whole kit to 2.8 kg against 3.0 for the 215, and to half a kilo under the standard system.

Grid-O, Short

The construction is unchanged by the length: perforated titanium sleeve cut by 3D laser, TIG-welded seams, mesh end cap, no clamped rings. Spark developed the design on World Superbike and Moto2 circuits and quotes 600 grams for a single case. A shorter case is a shorter version of that, not a simplified one.

Approval With the Cat in Place

The kit begins after the standard catalysed collector, which stays on the motorcycle. That is what allows Spark to sell the kit approved, and it is why the pipe diameters rather than the catalyst are where the tuning work went - Spark quotes about 2 hp over the standard exhaust from the diameter change alone.

The dB Killer

Both Grid-O cases take a removable dB killer, and Spark states that the sound stays inside the limits set by the regulations with it fitted. Removable is meant literally - it comes out with a tool, in a minute, at the end of the pit lane.

The part it plays in the approval is worth being blunt about: the homologation covers the exhaust as delivered, dB killer included. Take it out on a public road and the approval no longer describes what is on the motorcycle.

Installation

Slip-on level: the kit mounts onto the standard catalysed collector with stainless-steel fittings, so the catalytic converter stays on the motorcycle. Both silencers sit high, one each side.

Fitment & Compatibility

KTM 790 Duke, 890 Duke, 890 Duke L and 890 Duke R, 2018 to 2024. The 215 mm version is GKT0110TOM, and its racing counterpart is GKT0110T. Spark's Euro5+ generation for these motorcycles uses the Dyno silencer: GKT0119TOMA, GKT0119TOMN, GKT0119TOMC.

Road Approval

Homologated. The standard catalytic converter stays fitted and Spark lists the article as approved. Spark describes the Grid-O as the Euro 4 generation of its Duke range.
