Fifty Millimetres More Case

Volume is what a silencer works with. A 400 mm body holds more absorption material than a 350 and gives the gas a longer path through it, which shows up as a quieter and deeper result rather than a peakier one.

On a 660 twin that is a reasonable trade. The engine does not need a short exhaust to breathe, and the longer case is the version to choose if the bike sees circuits that measure.

Check the Space First

A longer case has to go somewhere. On an RS 660 with a standard tail there is room, but a race tail unit, a tail tidy or an aftermarket hugger can turn fifty millimetres into a clearance problem.

Spark supplies the system with a hanger to the chassis for racing use and a mounting kit for the standard bike with passenger footrests, so both mounting positions are covered — but the space behind the shock is worth measuring before you order rather than after.

What Stays the Same

Everything in front of the silencer. The collector is the same fully titanium part with couplings machined from solid, carrying the same three lambda sockets, and the carbon cover over the connection is included exactly as it is on the 350 mm build.

Spark states that the cover is not only cosmetic: with rear-set footrests it keeps the rider's boot off the pipe. That applies here in the same way.

Against the 350

2,012 euro against 1,964. Forty-eight euro is not the decision — the case length and what your circuit measures are. If neither matters to you, the shorter system GAP8806+GAP8807ST is the lighter of the two and reaches less far past the tail.

Installation

Full system: the standard collector and silencer both come off. Spark's manifolds carry three lambda probe sockets and the company states compatibility with Euro5+ motorcycles, so the sensor arrangement on a current bike is catered for.

The kit includes a hanger to the chassis for racing use and a dedicated mounting kit for fitting to a standard motorcycle with the passenger footrests in place.
