Size chart MT Helmets Targo S
| Size | Head circumference (cm) | Head circumference (inch) |
|---|---|---|
| XXS | 51–52 cm | 20.1–20.5 in |
| XS | 53–54 cm | 20.9–21.3 in |
| S | 55–56 cm | 21.7–22.0 in |
| M | 57–58 cm | 22.4–22.8 in |
| L | 59–60 cm | 23.2–23.6 in |
| XL | 61–62 cm | 24.0–24.4 in |
| XXL | 63–64 cm | 24.8–25.2 in |

How to measure your helmet size correctly: Measure your head circumference with a flexible tape around the widest part of the head, about 1–2 cm above the eyebrows. Measure 2–3 times and compare with the chart. Between sizes, usually choose the larger size.
Important note on fit
The right helmet should fit firmly without uncomfortable pressure points. A new helmet may feel a little tighter at first, as the inner lining adapts slightly over time.

The shell is plain matt gunmetal, with no graphic at all. Everything that makes this helmet look the way it does comes from the visor: an iridescent mirrored screen that shifts through violet, green and bronze as you move around it. Special Pure T2 is a one-colour helmet with a rainbow bolted to the front.
What the "rainbow" actually is
Let us be precise, because the photographs invite a misunderstanding. The colours are on the visor, not on the shell. The helmet itself is a single flat dark grey.
The effect comes from a vapour-deposited metal-oxide coating a few hundred nanometres thick. Light reflecting off the front surface interferes with light reflecting off the layer beneath; which wavelengths cancel and which reinforce depends on the angle you look from — so the colour changes as you or the light move. It is the same physics as a soap bubble, executed as a production process.
Before you order: mirrored visors and the law
A mirror-coated visor reduces light transmission, and road-legal limits differ by country. In Germany the visor must carry an ECE approval mark and, for night use, meet the transmission requirement — a strongly mirrored screen generally does not.
Treat this as a daytime screen. If you ride at night or into dusk, carry the clear MT-V-14B and swap it — the whole point of MT-QVSS is that this takes seconds. Check the rules where you ride; we are describing the physics, not giving legal advice for your country.
About the Special Pure T2 finish
The shell is a flat, slightly warm dark grey — matt, unbroken, with the MT logo in a tonal grey on the flank and nothing else. Vent trims and the visor mechanism are the same colour as the shell.
A one-colour matt helmet is the hardest finish of all to make well, because there is no graphic anywhere to hide behind: every seam, every vent surround and every panel transition sits exposed to be judged on its own. Look at a plain helmet closely before buying — what you are looking at is the build quality.
There is no sun visor
The Targo S has no drop-down shade. On this particular version that matters less than usual, because the iridescent screen is doing the job — but it also means that when you swap to the clear visor for a night ride, you have no shade at all.
The honest recommendation: own both screens, keep the second in the bike. That is how this helmet is meant to be used.
MT-QVSS
Two buttons release the screen; it clicks back on the same way. Operable with gloves on and with the helmet on your head.
On a helmet with no internal shade and a tinted screen fitted, this mechanism is not a nicety — it is the thing that makes the configuration safe. A screen change you can do in a lay-by in under a minute is a screen change you will actually make when the light goes.
ECE 22.06 and DOT
Mandatory across Europe since January 2024. Against the 22.05: 18 impact points instead of five, several impact speeds, an oblique impact against an abrasive anvil measuring rotational loading, and a Brain Injury Criterion ceiling. The Targo S additionally carries DOT.
Entry-level sport, and what that means here
The Targo S is MT's entry to the sport class, successor to the Targo Pro. HIRP shell at around 1,500 g, MT-QVSS mechanism, universal UCS intercom housing, new interior fabrics.
The omissions are honest ones — no sun visor, no spoiler — and they are what gets a helmet with this specification to this price rather than any compromise in the shell or the standard it clears.
Anti-fog
The MT-V-14B is prepared for Pinlock DKS209 and the FogOff FOG003 / FOG017.
No insert is supplied. Note that a Pinlock is fitted to whichever screen you are using — if you run the iridescent visor most of the time, that is where the insert goes, and a second insert is needed for the clear screen.
Caring for a mirrored coating
This is the one part of the helmet you can genuinely damage by cleaning it wrongly. The mirror layer is on the outside of the visor, and it is thin.
Never wipe it dry — grit will scratch straight through the coating. Never use anything alcohol- or solvent-based. Soak insects off with a damp cloth laid over them for a minute, then rinse with clean water and let it drip dry. A coating treated that way lasts as long as the visor; one wiped dry twice looks tired.
Sizes from XXS
The Targo S starts at XXS (51–52 cm), which very few sport full-face helmets do. A helmet a size too big rotates on the head in an impact and can come off. If you measure 51–52 cm, buy the XXS rather than a slightly loose XS from another brand.
There is a second reason it matters on this version specifically. A plain dark helmet with a mirrored screen is a design that lives or dies on its proportions — and a shell one size too large on a smaller head reads as a bucket rather than as the clean shape MT drew. Getting the size right is the difference between the two.
What it does not have
- No sun visor.
- No safety rating. SHARP has not tested the Targo S; there is no ADAC and no Snell result.
- No clear spare screen in the box — the iridescent visor is what is fitted, and a clear MT-V-14B is a separate purchase.
- Not a night visor. See above.
In the box
- MT Targo S helmet — Special Pure T2, matt dark grey with the iridescent screen fitted
- Protective bag, user manual and MT Helmets stickers
- No sun visor on this model; a clear screen and a Pinlock insert are sold separately.
