DescriptionThe whole story▼

Every few hundred kilometres, a well-kept Monster 821 goes up on a rear stand for chain care: cleaning, lubricating and checking the slack. It is the most routine job in the garage and also a surprisingly common way to drop a bike, because a rear stand only holds a motorcycle safely once it has been set up correctly. A bike that rolls off the stand often lands on its tail and swingarm. For the Monster 821 of 2018 and 2019, Accossato lists the PP084, a pair of black rear axle sliders.

Key Features

  • Rear axle sliders for the Ducati Monster 821, 2018 and 2019
  • Accossato PP084 rear fork protection
  • Two black protectors, one per side
  • Aluminium and plastic
  • Spacers, screws and all other fitting parts in the box, according to Accossato
  • Made to take the wear in place of the swingarm
  • No German ABE documented; for track and competition use

Construction and Material Quality

PP084 is the code for the rear fork protection that Accossato lists for the Monster 821 of 2018 and 2019. It consists of two black protectors combining aluminium and plastic, and Accossato supplies them with spacers, screws and the rest of what the installation calls for. Their job at the back is to be the part that touches first. Should the Monster 821 drop or slide, they are meant to meet the ground before the swingarm and the rear axle area, and that can reduce the damage there. Worn or cracked protectors are exchanged, which is exactly what they were made for.

Chain Care Without the Drop

A rear stand is safe once the bike stands straight on it, and risky in the few seconds before. Place the stand behind the Monster 821 with its supports aligned exactly with the pick-up points it is designed for, hold the bike upright by the grip or the tail with one hand and press the stand handle down in one smooth movement. If it takes two attempts, lower the bike and start again rather than forcing it. Once the rear wheel is off the ground, check that the bike cannot rock sideways, and keep the front wheel straight. Only then clean and lubricate the chain, turning the wheel by hand with the engine off. Never run the engine in gear to spin the wheel, and keep fingers and cloths well away from the sprocket. When you lower the bike, stand on the left, have the side stand ready and let the rear wheel down gently. A second pair of hands makes the whole job easier, particularly the first few times.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the PP084 for the Monster 821 of 2018 and 2019 only, and we have linked it to those two years; for the other years of this model its list shows no rear sliders. At the front, the PF049 is given for the Monster 821 from 2014 to 2021, and the TP080 crash pads from 2014 to 2018. No other model in our shop shares the PP084. After fitting, turn the rear wheel of your Monster 821 slowly and look at the chain, the exhaust and the brake caliper, none of which should touch the sliders.

Road Approval

Our records hold no German ABE or test mark for the PP084, so we carry it for racing and competition.
