DescriptionThe whole story▼

The Accossato 16x16 radial brake master cylinder pairs a 16 mm piston, sized for single-disc braking, with the shortest pivot distance in the brake range. A 16 mm pivot distance is the softest setting Accossato offers: lever pull is lighter for the same braking force, at the cost of a longer stroke before the pads bite. Fitted with a folding lever, long version, with relieving eyelet, this suits riders on naked, adventure or retro machines who want an easy, progressive lever feel for everyday road use rather than the firmest possible bite.

Key Features

  • 16 mm piston diameter, suited to single-disc front brake systems
  • 16 mm pivot distance, the softest and lightest lever setting Accossato offers
  • Folding lever, long version, fitted with a relieving eyelet (RST)
  • CNC-machined aluminium body with a natural anodised finish
  • Offset riser that reduces master cylinder deflection during braking
  • Passive lever stroke cut by more than 50 percent versus a standard radial unit
  • Stainless steel mounting screws and a galvanised steel bleed valve
  • Seals manufactured from Formula 1 compound material

Construction and Material Quality

This master cylinder is CNC-machined from an aluminium billet in Italy and supplied with a natural anodised body. The mounting screws are stainless steel, the bleed valve is galvanised steel, and the internal seals are cut from Formula 1 compound to resist heat and brake fluid over the life of the part. A machined-in offset riser limits deflection of the unit when the brake is applied hard, and the passive stroke, the gap before the pads actually touch the disc, is cut by more than half compared with an ordinary radial master cylinder.

Why 16x16 Gives the Softest Brake Lever Feel

The second number in 16x16 is the distance between the lever's pivot point and the pumping axis, and at 16 mm it is the shortest, hence softest, distance Accossato lists for this piston size. A shorter pivot distance means less mechanical leverage, so the rider applies a gentler force at the lever for a given hand position, but the stroke before the pads engage is correspondingly longer than on the 17 to 19 mm settings used elsewhere in the range. On a 16 mm, single-disc piston, that trade-off suits road riders who prioritise a relaxed, easily modulated lever over the shortest possible stroke.

Fitment and Compatibility

Fitment covers 54 motorcycles, mainly single-disc naked, adventure and retro models, including the BMW R1200R, BMW F800GS, Suzuki SV650, Kawasaki Z900, Honda CB1100 and BMW R NineT Scrambler. Several BMW F- and R-series variants appear across multiple production years, so the Fitment tab should be checked for the exact years covered on any given model. For motorcycles not on the list, confirm single-disc braking and piston size before buying.

Road Approval

This master cylinder has no ABE documented; it is intended for track and competition use.

Scope of Delivery

Supplied in the box is the Accossato radial brake master cylinder itself, assembled and ready to fit, together with its mounting hardware. The brake light switch is not included and can be ordered separately under part number ID001 or ID002. The fluid reservoir is likewise not included and is available separately in several styles to suit the handlebar layout.
