DescriptionThe whole story▼

The Honda CB500X is the adventure-styled member of Honda's 500 twins, with a screen, upright bars and a relaxed position that suits long days in the saddle. It is a bike for travelling, and when a circuit event runs over two days, camping in the paddock is the obvious choice for many of its riders: a tent pitched next to the bike and an evening among other riders. In Accossato's range, the CB500X from 2014 to 2019 is served by the FC125, cut from aluminium on CNC machines and closed by a quick-acting pawl whose pin colour you select.

Key Features

  • Quick-release fuel tank cap for the Honda CB500X, 2014 to 2019
  • CNC-machined aluminium throughout
  • Quick-closing pawl for fast opening and closing
  • Pin available in blue, green, black, red, silver or gold
  • Replacement pawl available separately
  • New design, robust and durable according to Accossato
  • No German ABE on record; for track use

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato, from Villastellone near Turin, machines the FC125 on CNC equipment and uses aluminium for the entire body; in its own words, the cap is robust and durable. Its design is new as well. Opening and closing the tank of the CB500X is handled by a quick-closing pawl, which turns a top-up into a matter of moments, and the pawl carries a pin in whichever of the six colours you choose. Should the pawl be damaged, it is available from Accossato as a separate spare.

Two Days, a Tent and a Fuel Can

Camping in the paddock makes a two-day circuit event cheaper and more relaxed, but it puts fuel, food and sleep close together, so a little order helps. Keep the fuel can outside the tent, closed, upright and in the shade, and well apart from any camping stove; petrol vapour is heavier than air and collects at ground level. Refuel the CB500X in the evening, once the engine has cooled and before it gets dark, rather than first thing in the morning when everyone is in a hurry. Leave some room at the top of the tank, since a warm afternoon after a cool night will make the fuel expand. In the morning, walk round the bike before you get changed: look at the cap and the tank for dew, dust or a damp patch, and open and close the pawl once to make sure it moves freely. Then have breakfast, and keep the stove away from the bike while you do.

Fitment and Compatibility

From 2014 to 2019, the CB 500 X is on Accossato's list for the FC125. Earlier CB500X models are not, so check your bike's year before ordering, or ask us. We also list this cap for the CB400X, the CB500F and the CBR500R.

Road Approval

Accossato documents no German ABE and no parts certificate for the FC125, so its place is the circuit. The CB500X is delivered with a cap that normally locks with the ignition key, and that cap is the one for public roads.
