DescriptionThe whole story▼
Hill climbs are a long-standing form of off-road competition: a steep slope, a timed run and a crowd waiting to see who reaches the top. A big enduro such as the SWM RS 500 R suits them well, provided its rider can get the torque onto the ground, and that is clutch work from the first metre. Accossato's C7182 is a folding clutch lever for the RS 500 R of 2016 to 2019, machined in Italy from Ergal 7075, with a four-finger blade and a hinge that lets it fold rather than snap.
Key Features
- Folding clutch lever for the SWM RS 500 R, model years 2016 to 2019
- Replaces the stock lever at the original clutch mount
- Longer blade designed for four fingers
- Anti-break hinge allows the blade to fold forward
- CNC-machined in Italy from Ergal 7075 aluminium alloy
- Blade in black, blue or orange on a dark base
- Supplied as a single lever
- No German ABE on record; for off-road use and competition
Construction and Material Quality
The C7182 is machined, not pressed or cast. CNC equipment in Italy cuts it from a solid block of Ergal 7075, a notably strong aluminium alloy, because Accossato wants a lever that is robust, reliable and light. The company started out in 1969 in Moncalieri, near Turin, building competition motorcycles, so hard use is familiar ground. The lever's dark base stays on the pivot at the clutch control, and a hinge connects it to the blade, which comes in black, blue or orange. Clutch levers in this range have the long blade, with room for four fingers.
One Run at the Hill
A good run starts before the bike moves. The rider picks a gear that will carry the RS 500 R most of the way up, holds the revs and lets the clutch out firmly but without a jolt, so the rear tyre digs in rather than spinning. On the way up, the clutch is used again to catch the engine when a bump or a soft patch drags the revs down. Near the top, where the slope is steepest and the ground most churned, a quick slip of the lever can keep the rear tyre biting for the last few metres.
When a run fails, it usually fails high up. The bike stalls, the rider steps off to one side, and a 500 four-stroke on a steep slope does not stay put for long. Often it slides or tumbles back down, and the levers are the first things to hit the ground. The C7182 has a hinge that lets the blade tip forward instead of breaking at the first impact, which improves the chances that the lever still works at the bottom. Nothing guarantees that after a tumble like this, but a working clutch lever means the SWM can go back into the queue for a second attempt.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the C7182 for the SWM RS 500 R from 2016 to 2019 and fits it at the original clutch control. For the front brake of the same bike, the matching folding lever is the B8281, listed for the same years and offered in the same three blade colours: black, blue and orange.
Road Approval
No German ABE is on file for the C7182. The RS 500 R is a road-registered enduro, but fitted with this lever it is not approved for public roads; the lever is sold for off-road and competition use.
Scope of Delivery
