DescriptionThe whole story▼
There is no fairing on a Speed Triple 1050 R. At the end of a fast straight the wind presses on your chest, your hands take part of that load through the bars, and then the braking marker arrives and the same hands have to switch from holding on to metering the front brake. For the R of 2012 to 2015, Accossato makes the EDF011: a CNC-machined aluminium brake lever for the original master cylinder, with an adjustable distance to the grip and a choice of three blade lengths.
Key Features
- Brake lever for the Speed Triple 1050 R, model years 2012 to 2015
- Fits the original front master cylinder
- Reach to the grip adjustable close to the pivot
- Short blade for two-finger braking in silver, blue, gold, green and orange
- Standard blade approximately 138 mm, made in all seven colours
- Machined from aluminium and anodised, with a black hub
- Fixed one-piece construction, no folding joint
- Supplied in its own Accossato box
Construction and Material Quality
The experience behind Accossato's brake discs comes from Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3. The EDF011 itself is milled from aluminium on CNC machines and anodised afterwards. Its hub, which holds the pivot bore and the reach adjuster, is always black, while the blade is coloured to order. The anodised layer grows out of the aluminium rather than sitting on top of it, so there is no paint to chip when the bike is pushed around a busy paddock. Along the blade there is no joint at all, and the same squeeze gets the same response every time.
The End of the Straight
Along a straight, a faired sports bike lets its rider tuck in behind the screen. On the Speed Triple 1050 R there is next to nothing to hide behind, and at track speed the air tries to push you off the back of the seat, so the arms end up pulling on the bars. Braking reverses that within a second or two: the wind pressure fades as the speed drops, deceleration throws your weight forward, and the arms go from pulling to pushing. Your hands are managing that change at exactly the moment they also have to meter the front brake. The simpler the reach to the lever, the less there is to get wrong. Set the EDF011 so that the blade meets your braking fingers while the hand still holds the grip firmly, rather than needing to open wide to find it. On the Speed Triple 1050 R many track riders pair that setting with the short blade, which leaves two fingers wrapped around the throttle while the other two work the brake.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the EDF011 for the Speed Triple 1050 R from 2012 to 2015. For the R built from 2016 onwards, its list names a different brake lever, the EDF099, so check the model year before ordering. On the left side of the bar, the clutch lever that goes with the 2012 to 2015 bike is the EST333, while the later R takes the EST333P.
Road Approval
No German ABE is documented for the EDF011, which is why we offer it for track use.
