Pressure drop across an air filter is not a fixed figure. It grows with the volume of air being drawn through the medium, so a filter costs an engine almost nothing at idle and the most at full airflow. That is worth thinking about on a 150 cm³ single, because a small engine reaches full airflow constantly. It has no tall gearing and no surplus of torque to fall back on, so ordinary progress is made high in the rev range rather than in short visits to it. A large motorcycle passes through that condition; a small one lives there. Whatever restriction has quietly accumulated in the airbox is therefore charged to the rider for a far greater share of every ride, and that is the argument for an element that can be returned to its clean condition instead of drifting away from it.
Key Features
- Single layer of dry polyester, never oiled: nothing to wash out, nothing to reach a sensor
- P08 medium: filtration at 80 microns with an airflow figure of 5,050 l/m²/sec
- Polyester threads from ø 22 microns, woven rather than pressed from pulp
- Roughly double the filtering surface of other performance filters
- Direct replacement in the standard airbox: no modification and no remap
- Washable and reusable, covered by a two-year warranty from the date of purchase
Where the restriction is actually paid for
A filter that has done a season's work behaves like a slightly smaller intake. On a machine with reserves in hand that shows up as nothing at all. On a 150 held at high revs, loaded, in top gear against a headwind, it shows up as the end of the rev range going soft, never as a dramatic loss but as the engine wanting another thousand revolutions to do what it used to do. Being straight about it: fitting any element will not add power to a standard motorcycle. What the P08 offers is that the restriction the engine sees after a clean is close to the restriction it saw when the part was new.
From consumable to component
The other change is bookkeeping. A paper element is a line that keeps coming back: a number to look up, an order to place, a wait, and the standing temptation to leave it another month because the replacement has not arrived yet. Across eleven model years of production that is a considerable stack of parts, all destined for a bin. The P08 is bought once and serviced with a compressor, so the interval follows what the riding has actually done to the element rather than what happens to be on the shelf.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air from the clean side outwards is the routine service for PM183S. For a deeper clean, wash in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinse until the water runs clear and dry it fully in open air, never with heat and never with a flame. Refit it dry; the P08 has no oiling stage. The Sprint Filter maintenance sheet sits in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Honda RS150R from 2016 to 2026. The same PM183S element also covers the FS150, Sonic 150R, Supra GTR 150 and Winner 150, five machines from one airbox design, the Sonic 150R from 2015. The full list is in the Fitment tab.
