Fluorescent pigments work by re-emitting ultraviolet light, and a matt lacquer scatters some of that emission back into the surface; a gloss coat lets more of it out and, crucially, adds specular highlights on top — so the helmet is both fluorescing and reflecting. In practice that means it holds its advantage later into dusk than a matt hi-vis finish does. The grey Code pattern over it is not decoration either: an unbroken block of fluorescent yellow reads as a shape without depth at distance, and the structure gives a driver's eye something to resolve. The honest limitation is the same as for every fluorescent surface — it fades under sustained ultraviolet, so garage storage rather than a sunny window will add years to it.

Three shells, and what KPA actually is

The shell is KPA and there are three sizes of it for seven helmet sizes. Read that against the price and it tells you where LS2 spent: not on an exotic material you can photograph, but on tooling and on the shell geometry that a four-star SHARP result depends on. It is an unglamorous place to invest and it is the one that changes how the helmet fits, weighs, looks and — on the evidence of the test — protects.

Ninety degrees, and how the chin bar locks

Ninety degrees rather than a hundred and eighty is a cost decision and not an oversight. A bar that rotates fully to the rear needs a longer travel path, a second set of detents and a shell profile shaped to receive it — the reason the Advant costs a hundred and sixty euros more. If you spend a lot of time riding through towns with the helmet open, that difference is worth paying. If you open it at stops, it is not.

What ECE 22.06 and the P/J label mean

The plaque riveted to the strap represents a test regime that changed substantially in 2021, and the version of it this helmet holds is the current one rather than a legacy pass. Alongside it sits the P/J pair: certified as a full-face with chin impacts, and certified again as a jet with the bar raised. Both were earned, and on a modular the second one is what makes the first configuration optional rather than mandatory.

Twin Visor, sun visor — and the Pinlock that is not in the box

Seven outer screens are available for this helmet — clear, light tint, dark tint, three iridium mirrors and a rainbow — which is a wider range than most helmets at this price offer and worth planning as a pair rather than one at a time. A clear screen for winter, something tinted or mirrored for summer, swapped in a minute. If you run two, remember the Pinlock is pinned to one visor and does not move between them without being refitted.

Air, the breath deflector and the elastic-band liner

Air comes in at the chin — the vent that clears a misted visor — and at the crown, where it enters ducts cut into the multi-density EPS and is guided across the head to the rear exhaust port. The breath deflector handles the other half of the fogging problem by steering your breath down and away. Underneath, the 3D laser-cut liner with its elastic-band crown is removable, washable and available in every helmet size.

1700 grams, no emergency release, and the rest of the honest list

Where this helmet asks something of you. It has no emergency release, so make sure whoever rides with you knows the pads come out the ordinary way. It arrives without a Pinlock, so add the DKS520 to the order if you ride in winter. It weighs 1700 g, which is felt as a dull ache at the end of a long day rather than as effort at the start.

Wind noise is not quoted because it has not been measured for this model. Structurally: neck seal, chin-bar gap, vents — and the screen on your motorcycle, which usually matters more than all three.

When something wears out

🔵 Before ordering any internal sun visor for this helmet, find the production date on the chin-strap label. There are two generations: from March 2024 the part is shared with the FF811 Vector II (806811SVI01 clear, 806811SVI11 tinted); before that it is the older part shared with the FF800 and FF808 (800800SVI01 clear, 806807SVI11 tinted).
