DescriptionThe whole story▼
When Ducati introduced the larger 1299 Panigale for 2015, the Panigale R kept the smaller 1199 displacement, because the World Superbike rules capped the size of twin-cylinder engines. Many of these bikes now spend their days on circuits, on slick tyres that wait under electric warmers while a generator hums in the paddock. For the Panigale R that Accossato lists as the 1199 R of 2016 and 2017, the company from Villastellone offers the FC135: a quick-release fuel tank cap cut from aluminium on CNC machines and closed by a pawl with a pin in one of six colours.
Key Features
- Quick-release fuel tank cap for the Ducati Panigale 1199 R, 2016 and 2017
- Machined from aluminium on CNC equipment, the whole cap
- Quick-closing pawl: the filler opens and closes in a moment
- Pin in blue, green, black, red, silver or gold
- Pawl also sold on its own as a replacement part
- Bikes from 2014 and 2015 take a different cap, the FC105
- No German ABE documented; for track use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato makes the FC135 completely from CNC-machined aluminium and calls the result robust and long-lasting; the styling is a new design of the company's own. In the paddock, what counts is the quick-closing pawl, which lets the cap come off quickly and go back on just as fast when the next session is already being called. The colour choice applies to the pin on that pawl, available in six finishes. If the pawl ever gets bent, Accossato supplies it as a separate part, and the rest of the cap stays in service on the Panigale R.
Laying Out the Paddock Space
A superbike on slicks needs more paddock equipment than a road bike: warmers for both wheels, a generator or a power hook-up to run them, paddock stands, a tool trolley and fuel. How these things are arranged decides a good part of the day's safety. Put the generator at the far end of your space with its exhaust facing away from the awning, and route the cables along the edge instead of across the path where the Panigale R is pushed in and out. The fuel can belongs at the opposite end, closed and in the shade, with a funnel and a clean cloth beside it. Refuel only there, with the engine switched off, and never while someone is topping up the generator or grinding a part on the bench next to you. By the time the warmers come off and the bike rolls towards the pit lane, the pawl should already have been closed and checked by hand. Setting the space up like this takes ten minutes in the morning and keeps fuel and heat apart for the rest of the day.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's application list gives the FC135 for this bike under the name 1199 R, for the years 2016 and 2017. For the 2014 and 2015 entries the list names another cap, the FC105, so check the year on your registration document before ordering. With us, the FC135 is also listed for the 1299 Panigale, the 959 Panigale and the Streetfighter 848. Swap caps only with the engine cold and the Panigale R parked securely, make sure the seal sits evenly on the filler, and look for fuel at the rim once the tank has been filled.
Road Approval
No German ABE and no expert report are documented for the FC135, so it is sold for the circuit. The Panigale R's factory cap normally locks with the ignition key, and for road riding it goes back on; this cap cannot simply take its place there.
