DescriptionThe whole story▼
Of the three bikes Ducati built on the new 821 platform in 2013, the Hypermotard 821 SP was the one for riders who wanted more, with fully adjustable, higher-spec suspension and extra ground clearance. It is also the version for which Accossato lists a brake lever of its own. The EDD001 is machined from aluminium, takes the place of the original lever on the master cylinder of the 2013 to 2015 Hypermotard 821 SP, and lets you adjust how far it stands from the grip.
Key Features
- For the Hypermotard 821 SP, model years 2013 to 2015
- Replaces the stock lever on the original master cylinder
- Reach adjuster beside the pivot
- Three blade lengths; standard is approximately 138 mm
- Anodised aluminium, machined on CNC equipment
- Hub in black, blade in seven colour options
- Rigid blade, no folding section
- No German ABE on record; for track riding
Construction and Material Quality
The adjuster of the EDD001 sits in the black hub, a short way from the pivot. Turning it changes the angle at which the blade rests, so the lever comes to a stop nearer to the grip or further from it. Accossato cuts the lever out of solid aluminium on CNC machines and anodises it, the hub black and the blade in the colour you order. Hub and blade are one rigid piece. There is no folding section, and so there is no second pivot that could add movement when you brake hard at the end of a straight.
Trail Braking on the SP
Track riders on a Hypermotard 821 SP often keep some front brake on well past the turn-in point, trailing it off as the lean angle grows. The technique relies on the fingers holding a small, steady pressure while the body moves around the bike, and that is easier when the lever is short enough not to catch the outer fingers and close enough to be held without the wrist dropping. The short blade, sold in silver, orange, green, gold and blue, is the usual circuit choice for exactly this reason.
Set the reach with your leather gloves on and the bike on a paddock stand, then check it again after the first session, when you know how your hand really sits on the grip at speed.
Fitment and Compatibility
In Accossato's catalogue the EDD001 belongs to the Hypermotard 821 SP from 2013 to 2015. The standard Hypermotard 821 uses a different lever, the EDB012, and the list does not say why the two differ, so order by version: if your bike is an SP, this is the one. The ESD082 clutch lever from Accossato is listed for the SP over the same years.
Road Approval
Please note: no German ABE is documented for this lever, which is sold for track riding.
