DescriptionThe whole story▼
If you want noticeably sharper, more consistent front-end feel from your Yamaha YZF-R7 without committing to a full fork rebuild, the K-Tech DDS Closed Cartridge Kit is the most practical, highest-value upgrade available. Designed specifically for the YZF-R7's stock fork legs (model years 2021–2026), it transforms the factory damping character using race-proven technology developed in the British Superbike championship and at the Isle of Man TT — yet it remains fully road-legal and adjustable enough for everyday commuting as well as weekend track days.
Key Features
- 30-way independent compression and rebound adjustment gives you precise, repeatable damping settings for road or track without guesswork.
- Patented Direct Damping System (DDS) eliminates cavitation so performance stays consistent whether you are threading through city traffic or braking hard into a corner at speed.
- Asymmetric, independently operating damping circuits improve response time and dynamic handling feel compared to the standard cartridge.
- 20 mm piston and 31 mm control valves work together to deliver superior oil flow and finer damping control across the full stroke range.
- 18 mm preload adjustment allows you to dial in spring rate to suit your weight, luggage load, or riding style without specialist tools.
- Increased stroke over the original cartridge extends usable suspension travel, improving bump absorption on uneven road surfaces.
- Supplied with three pairs of springs and dedicated installation tools, so you have everything needed for a personalised baseline setup from day one.
DDS Technology Explained
K-Tech's Direct Damping System places the damping circuits in a closed cartridge format that works directly on the oil column rather than relying on the loose shimstack arrangements found in many OEM forks. A spring force keeps the internal components under constant load, preventing the oil aeration and pressure drops — cavitation — that cause the vague, inconsistent feel that plagues hard-driven stock forks. The result is a front end that responds the same way lap after lap, or mile after mile, regardless of temperature or pace.
The 8 mm piston rod reduces system offset, keeping internal geometry tight and contributing to the overall refinement of the damping curve. Combined with the 20 mm primary piston and the 31 mm control piston, every element of the hydraulic circuit is sized to work in harmony with the YZF-R7's fork dimensions rather than being adapted from a generic platform.
Road and Track Versatility
Race-developed hardware does not have to mean race-only hardware. The 30-way compression and rebound adjusters make it straightforward to run a softer, more compliant setting for long road rides and then firm everything up for a track day, all with a small flathead screwdriver and the supplied tools. The recommended baseline settings — 16 clicks compression, 18 clicks rebound, 10 mm preload — give a well-balanced starting point that works for a wide range of riders and conditions, so the kit delivers tangible improvements immediately, even before you begin fine-tuning.
Fitment and Compatibility
This cartridge kit is engineered exclusively for the standard forks fitted to the following model:
- Yamaha YZF-R7 — model years 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026
Installation must be carried out by an authorised K-Tech Service Centre to ensure correct assembly, oil fill, and safety. Fitting by an unqualified workshop may void the product warranty and compromise performance.
