DescriptionThe whole story▼

Much of an F 700 GS's working life is spent on ordinary roads: the commute, the weekly shop, a loop on a Sunday afternoon. Ordinary roads come with roadworks, and a single-lane section controlled by temporary lights can hold you for several minutes. That is where clutch habits show. The ESB008 is Accossato's machined aluminium clutch lever for the F 700 GS of 2013 to 2017, fitted at the original clutch mounting, with a distance to the grip that you can set to your hand.

Key Features

  • For the BMW F 700 GS, listed for 2013 to 2017
  • Replaces the original clutch lever at the stock mounting
  • Adjustable reach
  • Blade lengths short, standard (approx. 138 mm) and long, depending on colour
  • Anodised aluminium, CNC-machined
  • Black hub, blade in black, silver, red, blue, green, orange or gold
  • Fixed lever without a folding joint
  • Supplied in an Accossato box

Construction and Material Quality

Most of the work in the ESB008 happens at its hub. That is where the pivot bore sits, and beside it the adjuster that sets how far the blade rests from the grip; Accossato anodises this section black on every version. The blade, anodised in the colour you choose, runs from the hub to its tip as one fixed piece, without the second pivot of a folding lever. The whole part is machined from aluminium on CNC equipment, so its dimensions are consistent and the edges are finished cleanly where your fingers wrap around it.

Roadworks and Temporary Lights

Holding the clutch in at a red light for a few seconds is normal. Holding it for three minutes at a set of roadworks lights tires the hand and keeps the clutch release mechanism under load for no reason. It is simpler to select neutral, let go of the lever and rest your fingers until the oncoming traffic has passed. Finding neutral easily depends on the clutch separating fully, and that in turn depends on how the lever is set. If the reach is so short that the blade stops against your ring and little fingers before it gets to the grip, the plates may still drag slightly: neutral becomes elusive and first gear goes in with a clunk. On the F 700 GS, set the ESB008 so a full pull clears the fingers that stay on the grip, or, if you use two fingers on the lever, consider the short blade, which ends before the others. When the light turns green, a rested hand also makes the start smoother.

Fitment and Compatibility

This lever is listed by Accossato for the F 700 GS from 2013 to 2017 and takes the place of the original at BMW's clutch mounting. The F 750 GS that followed in 2018 is not part of this listing. For the right hand, Accossato's EDB001 brake lever covers the F 700 GS for the same years, with the same hub and colours.

Road Approval

This clutch lever has no documented German ABE and is offered for circuit riding.
