A motorcycle used on the road lives outdoors whether or not it is being ridden. Standing rain, spray thrown off the machine in front, condensation forming in a cold intake overnight, the wash that follows a wet week — the airbox is dry in the sense that nothing sprays directly into it, and damp in every other sense. That matters, because moisture is what turns a loose dusting into a bonded layer, and because the two common filter materials respond to it in completely opposite ways.
Key Features
- Dry polyester weave: 80 µm filtration, 5,050 l/m²/sec of flow
- Washing is a maintenance step, not a repair — water does the medium no harm
- Nearly twice the filtering surface of typical performance elements
- Direct replacement inside the series case, requiring no modification and no recalibration
- Holds 93.13 % of 100-micron particles; four layers of oiled cotton hold 76.42 %
- Made to last as long as the motorcycle, with a two-year warranty from the day it is bought
What damp does to a filter
Cellulose swells when it takes on water and never fully recovers its shape, which is why a paper cartridge that has been thoroughly wet is finished even after it dries — the resistance stays up and the fibre structure has moved. Polyester does not absorb in that way. The medium can be rinsed, wrung out by nothing more than moving air, and refitted at its original figures. A dusty element that has also been damp is the worst combination there is: the load stops being loose powder and starts being a crust. On a washable weave that state is an afternoon's work rather than a purchase.
Dry means dry, in both senses
The P08 is dry by specification as well as in service: no oil is applied at manufacture and none is ever added. That removes the one consumable that can migrate downstream onto a throttle body or an intake sensor, and it also means there is nothing to re-dose after a wash. None of that is a power modification: the element sits in a case the factory calibrated around, and a road machine gains no output from the swap. The counterpart is a rule with no flexibility in it — the element goes back into the airbox completely dry, and it is never dried with heat. Fitting it damp traps moisture where the deposits are, and a heat gun distorts the weave permanently. The SM276S has no other prohibitions worth the name.
Care and cleaning
Start with compressed air on the clean side, blowing outwards. If the element has been through wet weather and the deposit has set, wash it in lukewarm water with a small amount of mild detergent and keep rinsing until the water leaves clear. Dry it at room temperature in moving air, giving it as long as it needs, and check it is dry all the way through before it goes back. No flame, no hot air, no dressing of any kind. The instruction sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Listed against the Zontes ZT 155G SR, built 2020 to 2026. This one code serves six Zontes machines of 125, 155 and 200 cm³ — the model suffix distinguishes the motorcycle, not the airbox, so order by code and year.
