The first is a lower intake restriction than a loaded paper cartridge presents — not against a new cartridge, but against the one fitted since spring. The second matters more on a motorcycle somebody keeps: the restriction is resettable. Compressed air brings it back toward where it started, as often as you like, for as long as the bike lasts. Medium choice is a trade, not a ranking: a finer fabric holds back more and passes less, which is why the same housing is also catalogued with the 14-micron P14 for dusty routes and the 85-micron F1-85 for closed-circuit work. If a trip has left it visibly loaded, wash it in lukewarm water with a little mild detergent, rinse until the water runs clear and leave it in moving air until it is dry throughout — never against a heater, never over a flame, never refitted damp.
