Limited series are cheap to own until something wears out. The parts made in the same quantity as the machine are the ones that eventually stop being made at all, and an owner learns which those are the hard way. The air filter is on the other list. PM91S is drawn around an airbox, and that airbox went on to serve two mass-produced Suzukis built years after this one — so the filter for a small-run special is kept in production by motorcycles that have nothing to do with it.

Availability by association

Sprint Filter groups elements by housing rather than by model, and on this number the grouping works in the older machine's favour. Three Suzukis built between 2009 and 2022 share it, and the two later ones were still leaving showrooms long after this special had finished its run. A part number stays alive on the strength of its newest customer, which is why a filter is one of the few consumables an owner of a small series never has to hoard. The washable element goes one step further and removes the dependency: bought once, cleaned thereafter.

Woven polyester, and the trade it makes

The P08 is one sheet of woven polyester and it works dry, which matters ahead of a fuel-injected intake: there is no oil film to migrate and no re-oiling step to get wrong after a wash. Its 80 microns describe the gaps between threads; the 22-micron figure describes the thread itself, and the two are routinely confused. In the manufacturer's comparison the medium retains 93.13 per cent of 100-micron particles where four-layer oiled cotton reaches 76.42. The rest of the range trades away from 5,050 l/m²/sec in a straight line — P037 at 37 microns, P14 at 14, T12 at 7 — each holding more back and passing less. Finer is not better, only different. And none of them adds power: a drop-in element leaves this engine exactly as strong as it was.

Care and cleaning

Blow PM91S through from the clean face outwards so the dirt leaves by the side it entered, then refit it dry. Where a long season has left more than air will move, lukewarm water and a mild detergent take care of it; rinse until the water runs clear and let it dry in open air.
