Black Against Orange

KTM builds the 990 Duke around a colour scheme with no middle ground: orange bodywork, black frame, black wheels. A bright titanium silencer becomes a third colour in that scheme; a dark one joins the frame and the swingarm and lets the orange do the work.

The carbon end cap stays visible because the weave catches light even against a dark case, which is what stops the silencer reading as a standard part from a distance.

Electro-Coloured, Not Coated

Dark style changes the surface of the stainless itself through an electrochemical process. Nothing is applied on top, so nothing chips where the clamp bites and nothing lifts as the silencer heats up.

It is also harder than a ceramic finish. On a naked bike, where the silencer is at boot-heel height and the machine gets parked among others, that is a practical advantage rather than a technical footnote.

One Hundred Grams

1,5 kg here against 1,4 for the titanium build, both against a standard 3,3. Stainless is denser than titanium and the difference shows, but at a hundred grams it is not what should decide the purchase — particularly since Spark charges the same 701 euro either way.

What Comes Off the Bike

Spark replaces the silencer and its connecting section. The manifold, the catalytic converter and the sensors stay as KTM built them, which is why the Euro 5+ certificate covers the motorcycle rather than the part in isolation.

Fitting is an hour with hand tools, and nothing needs re-mapping afterwards.

Three Machines, One Part

The 990 Duke, the 990 Duke R and the faired 990 RC R share the platform and the silencer mounting, and Spark lists all three against this number.

Made in Italy

Spark builds in Mantova and says so on the product. On a silencer at this price the point is not patriotism but traceability: the case, the welding and the carbon parts come out of one factory rather than three suppliers.
