An Electronic Steering Damper
Öhlins, varying with speed and lean. Two hundred horsepower through a wide handlebar produces loads that a fixed damper cannot cover properly.
Why an LED Unit Trips It
A diode array draws a fraction of what a filament bulb did, and the monitoring circuit reads that difference as a burnt-out lamp. The warning appears even though the light works perfectly.
Why Ducati Monitors It
Rear lighting is a safety item and the legislation behind it expects a failure to be reported to the rider. The monitoring circuit is doing exactly what it was designed to do.
On a Panigale
The tail unit is a structural part of the seat section, and the connector for it sits where it can be reached without disturbing the subframe.
A Clean Fault Memory
The controller sees a normal load and records nothing at all, so a later diagnostic session reads a genuine history rather than a suppressed one.
Heat Management
The load has to go somewhere and it goes out as warmth. Mounting the body where air moves rather than against plastic is the whole of the installation advice.
At a Periodic Inspection
Where a test covers rear lighting, what matters is that the light works and is the correct colour, not what answers the monitoring circuit. A machine with a functioning aftermarket unit and this part fitted generally has no issue; one with no light at all plainly does.
What a Rear Conversion Usually Involves
A shorter mudguard, a plate bracket, often an LED tail unit and sometimes new indicators. Each of those touches a circuit the controller watches, which is why one motorcycle can end up needing more than one answer under the seat. Working out which warnings belong to which change is easier with a diagnostic tool than with guesswork.
