The Sensible Half of the Pair
Same engine, same frame, same electronics as the RF, on Sachs suspension and cast wheels. A good many owners bought the RR and put the saved money into suspension work and tyres, which was not the worse decision.
A Litre, Not More
Aprilia held the V4 at 999.6 cc through this entire generation while rivals grew. Every increase in output came from intake, camshaft and electronics development, which is a harder way to find horsepower.
Model Year Decides the Part
Bikes up to 2016 take this block; the 2017 revision brought a different one. The distinction is not visible at a glance, so the registration document settles it faster than the handlebar does.
Two Hundred Metres Before a Corner
Braking hard from a high speed, the left hand is holding the bar and nothing else. A control that needs looking for at that moment is a control that will not be used until the bike is upright again.
Sealed Elements
Enclosed within the machined body instead of behind a clipped cover. Switchgear rarely fails mechanically; it fails once water has sat against a contact for a season and quietly corroded it.
Black or Titanium
Both anodised through the surface. On an RR in Aprilia's own black and red, the black unit disappears into the cockpit and the titanium one reads as an intentional choice rather than a repair.
The Original Plug
The loom terminates in Aprilia's connector. The whole exchange is mechanical and takes about a quarter of an hour with the right hex key.
