Still Everywhere
Triumph sold enormous numbers and a great many are still in daily use, which keeps the parts supply and the aftermarket healthy a decade on.
The Sound
A three-cylinder engine has a character that neither a twin nor a four can reproduce, and on a naked bike there is nothing between it and the rider.
Homologation
Secondary air is part of the motorcycle's approval where it is fitted, and removing it moves the bike into competition use in those markets.
Nothing Consumed
No gasket is destroyed and no fastener is stretched. Everything removed goes back exactly as it came off whenever it needs to.
Nothing Structural
The housing carries no load and its removal affects no part of the head's sealing or cooling. It is genuinely a bolt-on component.
The Case Against Improvising
A bolt and a washer, a rubber bung or a smear of epoxy will all hold for a while. None of them survives a season of heat cycling, and the epoxy in particular has to be chiselled off a cylinder head afterwards.
Torque Into Aluminium
The fasteners thread into the cylinder head, and Triumph specifies a figure for good reason. Guessing at it is the commonest way a straightforward twenty-minute job turns into a thread repair and a considerably longer afternoon.
A Visual Difference on a Naked Bike
The top of a Triumph triple is on display, and a milled cover reads as considered where a plastic box and a hose read as necessary. It is a small thing that owners of faired bikes never think about.

It refits in twenty minutes and it is what an inspection will look for. Storing it costs no space at all.
