The JP ES 041 seals the Multistrada 1200's secondary air ports with a solid cover, removing one of the few genuinely perishable parts bolted to a cylinder head.

A Hundred and Sixty Horsepower
More than most adventure bikes of its generation, which is why the Multistrada was always the fast choice in the class rather than the sensible one.
Not the Electrical Half
The controller monitors its solenoid regardless of what is bolted to the head, so the circuit still needs its own eliminator to keep the panel clear.

Turned from billet with the sealing face cut in one operation, which is why it seals on a ring alone rather than needing compound.

The cover is visible to anybody who looks at the engine, which is the correct way for a change of this kind to work.

It goes back in twenty minutes with no new seals required, and having it is what turns an emissions inspection into a straightforward evening.
The Case Against a Bolt and Washer
Improvised blanks lose their seal within a season of heat cycling, and the leak is small enough that nobody notices until something else is being diagnosed. Epoxy is worse, because it has to be chiselled off a cylinder head afterwards.
What the Housing Is and Why It Ages
A moulded box of reed valves bolted directly to a cylinder head, admitting air into the exhaust ports and preventing it travelling back the other way. It lives through the widest temperature range on the motorcycle several times a day, and the reeds inside flex on every closed throttle. They crack with age and heat cycles rather than with distance ridden.
Refitting Years Later
Because the cover seals on a ring rather than a gasket, the head face is exactly as it was when the standard housing goes back on. That is the property that makes an emissions inspection a formality rather than a gamble, and it is worth more than the cover itself.
