A Rally Version
Ducati offers a higher specification with Kayaba closed cartridge forks and more travel, aimed at riders who genuinely compete.
Reversible
The standard housing refits on its own fasteners with no replacement seals required, so the engine returns to specification whenever it needs to.
Fewer Perishables
A moulded box full of reeds is one of the few genuinely consumable items bolted to a cylinder head. Aluminium removes a future job.
What the Reeds Do
They allow air in one direction only, so exhaust pressure cannot push gas back towards the filter. A crack removes that protection entirely.
Why the Housing Fails
It is a moulding bolted directly to a cylinder head, living through the widest temperature range on the motorcycle several times a day. The reeds flex on every closed throttle and eventually one cracks.
Two Heads, Two Housings
On a V-twin or a V4 each cylinder head carries its own assembly, so a complete deletion means a cover for each one and reaching the rear bank as well as the front.
What Actually Improves
A tidier top end on an engine Ducati deliberately styles around, one fewer perishable component bolted to a cylinder head, and an exhaust port that cannot admit anything. No power, no throttle response and no consumption change, and nobody should buy this expecting otherwise.
Refitting Years Later
Because the cover seals on a ring rather than a gasket, the head face is exactly as it was when the standard housing goes back on. That is the property that makes an emissions inspection a formality rather than a gamble, and it is worth more than the cover itself.
