Nothing Carried Over
The engine, the frame and the bodywork are all new. Buyers should not assume parts from the 955 will fit, because almost none of them do.
Do Not Skip the Airbox End
The port where the hose left the intake needs closing too, otherwise unfiltered air enters the engine and the outcome is worse than before.
A Repair as Much as a Deletion
On a machine past its first decade the reed housing has limited life left, so the aluminium half removes a job that was already coming.
Improvised Alternatives
A resistor in heatshrink and a bolt with a washer will both work for a while, and both fail quietly rather than obviously.
The Reed Argument
A cracked reed lets exhaust gas back towards the filter, and the residue shows up in the airbox long before anybody suspects the system.
Why Not Just a Bolt
Improvised blanks lose their seal within a season of heat cycling, and the leak is small enough that nobody notices for a long time.
Both Halves Sold Alone
Owners who want only the warning gone can buy that half by itself, which is worth knowing before ordering a kit that does more than the situation requires.
The Third Thing Nobody Mentions
The hose port at the airbox end stays open once the housing is gone, and closing it properly is part of the job rather than an afterthought. Unfiltered air into an intake is a worse outcome by a considerable margin than the system that was removed.
A Realistic Time Estimate
Allow an evening rather than an hour. On a faired model the bodywork is most of it, on a naked machine the tank and airbox still have to come out, and the two components between them take about twenty minutes. Anybody promised half an hour has been told about the parts and not about the motorcycle.
