A Deliberate Throwback
Suzuki styled the 1050 after the DR-Big of the 1980s, complete with the beak and the square headlight. It is the most confident design decision the company has made in years.
A Hundred and Seven Horsepower
From the 1037 cc V-twin with revised cams and a new throttle body. Suzuki gained power and passed Euro 5 at the same time, which is not trivial.
What Gets Removed
The solenoid controlling secondary air injection into the exhaust ports. It exists for emissions testing and it corrupts the fuelling readings.
A Fault Immediately
The ECU checks the circuit at every start. Without an eliminator the warning appears at once and remains permanently.
Blank the Ports
The cylinder head passages need a separate cover. Fitting only the electrical half leaves the system half removed.
Seven Model Years
The fitment covers 2020 to 2026. Suzuki added the DE version with a twenty-one inch wheel later and the emissions hardware carried over.
Type Approval
Emissions equipment is part of what makes the bike road legal. On an adventure bike ridden across borders that is worth weighing carefully.
Cornering ABS
The 1050 gained an inertial platform with lean-sensitive braking and hill hold. Suzuki was late to that and the implementation is good.
Nothing Cut
Original connector throughout. Far from a workshop, an installation with no splices is the one that keeps working.
The Beak Came Back
Suzuki styled the 1050 after the DR-Big, a motorcycle from 1988 that most of the market had forgotten. It was a confident decision from a company that had been playing it safe for years, and it gave the V-Strom an identity it had never previously had.
