The Start of the Panigale Line
Everything Ducati has built since traces back to this motorcycle, including the V4 that eventually replaced the twin entirely.
Why Owners Convert
Electronic legs are expensive to rebuild and the valving is fixed by the manufacturer's own logic. A conventional cartridge or a track shock puts the tuning back in the hands of whoever set it up.
Nothing Is Written
No software is flashed and no parameter edited anywhere in the controller. The eliminator works purely through what it presents electrically at the connector.
Why a Blanking Plug Fails
An open connector is the clearest fault signal available. Taping the plug or leaving it hanging produces exactly the warning the conversion was meant to avoid.
Nothing About the Engine
Fuelling, traction control and the engine maps are untouched. This part speaks to the suspension controller and to nothing else on the motorcycle.
Mounting
Secured where it cannot swing into the wheel, the linkage or the exhaust. A cable tie in the right place is the whole of the installation.
The Common Reasons
Rebuild cost, a crash-damaged leg, or a rider who wants a specific spring and valving combination rather than a controller's compromise.
Front and Rear Are Not Interchangeable
The two circuits use different connectors and expect different values, so the parts are not the same and cannot be swapped between ends. A conversion at one end only needs one eliminator, and a full conversion needs both.
The First Generation of the System
Ducati's early electronic fork used a coarser adjustment range than the later units, and riders who found it either too soft or too firm at the extremes had little recourse. That is a large part of why conversions on this generation are more common than on the machines that followed it.
Cartridge Kits for This Fork
The lower legs are conventional and well supported by the aftermarket, so a cartridge kit fits inside them without the outer parts of the fork changing at all. The conversion is therefore internal, which keeps the appearance of the motorcycle exactly as it was.
