DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Accossato Ready To Brake 16x18 radial master cylinder keeps the same 16 mm single-disc piston as the softer 16x16 version but moves the pivot distance to 18 mm, the setting Accossato rates for track use and also recommends for the street, giving a firmer, more direct lever feel without changing the piston size. It shares the shark-shaped body, integrated micro-switch and seven lever colours of the rest of the Ready To Brake range, and this unit is listed against the same 54 motorcycles as the 16x16 version in our fitment data.
Key Features
- 16 mm piston diameter, suitable for single-disc braking systems
- 18 mm lever pivot distance, for track use and also recommended for street riding
- Folding lever, long version, with relieving eyelet (RST), available in seven colours
- Integrated micro-switch for the brake light, built into the unit
- Offset fixing riser with a quick-release jumper to speed up servicing
- Shark-shaped body that gives the master cylinder its distinct profile
- Stainless steel mounting screws and a zinc-plated bleed valve
- Seals manufactured from Formula 1 compound material
Construction and Material Quality
The body on this unit is also a CNC-machined aluminium casting produced in Italy, carrying the same specification Accossato applies throughout the Ready To Brake family: stainless mounting screws, a zinc-plated bleeder, and piston seals in Formula 1 compound able to take sustained heat and constant brake fluid contact without losing their grip. A quick-release jumper sits in the offset fixing riser, letting a mechanic unbolt the whole pump from its clamp for servicing while the hose stays connected and sealed, avoiding a fresh bleed once the job is finished; the same offset geometry also keeps the body from flexing when the lever is pulled hard.
Moving from the Softest to a Firmer Pivot Setting
The step from a 16 mm to an 18 mm pivot distance, with the piston unchanged at 16 mm, is entirely about lever feel rather than braking power: a longer distance between the pivot and the pumping axis shortens the lever stroke needed to reach full braking force but asks for slightly more hand effort to get there. Accossato rates this 18 mm setting for track use while also recommending it for everyday street riding, making it the more versatile of the two 16 mm-piston pivot options in the Ready To Brake range, where the 16x16 leans toward comfort and a longer stroke. Riders who found the 16x16 a touch soft under hard braking, or who want one master cylinder that works equally well commuting and on a track day, are the natural fit for this 18 mm version.
Fitment and Compatibility
Our fitment data shows 54 confirmed motorcycles for this master cylinder, spread across Aprilia, BMW, Ducati, Honda, Kawasaki and Suzuki, among them the BMW R1200RT (2016-2018), Ducati Scrambler 400 (2016-2021), Honda CB1100RS (2017-2020), Kawasaki Vulcan S (2017-2020) and Suzuki GSR750 (2011-2016). Exact model years for the full list appear in the Fitment tab on this page, worth checking against your own registration document before ordering.
Road Approval
This master cylinder is not supplied with German road-approval documentation; it is intended for track and competition use.
