DescriptionThe whole story▼
The MGX-21 is Moto Guzzi's bagger, built on the California 1400 platform with a front fairing, hard side cases and a 21-inch front wheel that gives the bike its name. Its nickname, Flying Fortress, suits a machine made for covering distance. On a long motorway day, though, the right hand stays wrapped around the throttle for hours, and the brake lever should be easy to reach without extra effort. The Accossato EDF023 is a brake lever for the MGX-21 of 2016 to 2020. A CNC-machined aluminium part, it goes onto the standard master cylinder and offers an adjustable reach.
Key Features
- Brake lever for the Moto Guzzi MGX-21, listed from 2016 to 2020
- Replaces the stock lever on the original master cylinder
- Adjustable distance to the grip
- Seven colours in standard length, about 138 mm
- Short blade in five colours, long in four
- CNC-milled aluminium with a black anodised hub
- Solid blade without folding mechanism
- No German ABE documented, sold for track use
Construction and Material Quality
The EDF023 is milled from one piece of aluminium and anodised, with a black hub and a blade in the colour you pick. There are no bolted or hinged sections: the blade runs straight from the hub, where the pivot and adjuster sit, to the tip. On a bike with carbon fibre details like the MGX-21, the satin sheen of anodised aluminium sits comfortably next to the carbon weave, whether you choose a discreet black blade or a brighter one.
Long Days on the Motorway
Hand fatigue on a long ride builds slowly. The throttle hand holds one position for hundreds of kilometres, and each time you reach for the brake, the fingers have to lift, extend and pull. If the lever is set too far out, that extension is larger than necessary, and by late afternoon the fingers respond more slowly than they did at breakfast. On the MGX-21, set the EDF023 so the blade sits just beyond your relaxed fingertips; the fingers then travel only a short distance before they meet it. Take regular breaks, and flex and stretch your hands at every stop. When you do brake, a lever that meets the fingers early lets the hand stay loose, which also reduces the tension that climbs into the forearm and shoulder over a day in the saddle. For riders who brake with all four fingers, the long blade in blue, gold, green or orange spreads the pull across the whole hand.
Fitment and Compatibility
The MGX-21 1400 appears in Accossato's catalogue for the EDF023 with the years 2016 to 2020. The lever replaces the stock blade on the bike's own front master cylinder. Accossato lists the ESC023 clutch lever for the same MGX-21 years. Available lengths depend on the colour: all colours in standard, blue, gold, green, orange and silver short, and blue, gold, green and orange long.
Road Approval
There is no documented German ABE for this brake lever, so it is offered for track use.
