Engines come in sizes; grit does not. The ZT 125-GK draws fewer litres a minute than the largest machine sharing this airbox, and that is the only thing about it that is smaller. Sand lifted off a verge in August, the fines left behind by a resurfacing crew, the powder a tractor drops on a lane in autumn: all of it arrives at whatever size it happens to be, indifferent to the displacement of whatever is breathing it. That is why one of the two numbers on this page is written in microns and the other in litres per square metre. The first describes the world outside; the second describes the part.
Key Features
- Dry nonwoven of special construction, filtering to 14 microns
- Rated flow of 1,800 l/m²/sec, where the woven medium for this case is rated 5,050
- Roughly double the filtering surface of other performance elements
- A straight replacement for the standard panel: the airbox is untouched and the mapping is left alone
- No oil at manufacture and none afterwards, so nothing can migrate onto the throttle body or the sensors
- Cleaned rather than replaced, specified for the life of the motorcycle, warranted for two years
An absolute figure and a relative one
Micron ratings are absolute. Fourteen microns means the same thing on a 125 as it would on a litre twin, because it is a statement about particles, and particles take no notice of what lies downstream of them. Flow ratings are relative to area, which is why they are quoted per square metre. Keeping the two apart is most of what is needed to read the range: one number belongs to the road, the other to the fabric and how much of it there is.
Nothing about a small engine is more tolerant
It is tempting to assume a light, low-powered single has less at stake in its intake than something bigger. Nothing supports that. Material getting past a medium does not scale itself down to suit, and a machine that runs happily for many years has time to accumulate the consequences. So the P14 offers a finer specification where air enters, and that is all it offers: a drop-in element adds no power to a standard motorcycle, the A1 class sets this one's ceiling regardless, and 1,800 l/m²/sec is a deliberate step back from 5,050. What is left is worth having — an intake restriction that stays where it is put, and a part that is washed instead of bought.
Care and cleaning
The routine starts on the clean side: compressed air, directed outward, pushing collected material back out the way it entered. Where the surface has gone tacky, warm water with a mild washing-up liquid releases it, and the medium is rinsed until the run-off is clear. It is then left in moving air at ambient temperature, never dried with heat or flame, and the SM276P14 is refitted completely dry and untreated. Sprint Filter files the instructions under Downloads on this page.
Fitment & Compatibility
Catalogued for the Zontes ZT 125-GK, model years 2020 through 2026. The same code serves six Zontes machines across three displacements, because the airbox behind it is common to all; the full list sits in the Fitment tab.
