By Sprint Filter's own account, its filters are the most widely used in MotoGP, Moto3, World Superbike, Supersport and Superstock. That is a manufacturer's statement rather than an independent measurement, and it should be read as one — but taken at face value it is also easy to misread. What travels from a racing paddock to a CFMOTO SR-S 450 is a piece of cloth. What stays behind is everything that made the cloth the right choice there. The PM270S F1-85 is the same element the claim refers to; whether it belongs in your machine depends on how much of the rest gets copied with it.
Key Features
- The racing medium of the P08 line: 85 microns at a rated 15,000 l/m²/sec
- Dry polyester, oil-free at every stage of its life, serviced with a compressor
- Around twice the filtering surface of the performance elements it competes with
- Drops into the standard SR-S 450 airbox — nothing adapted, no fuelling change
- Reusable for the working life of the motorcycle, warranted two years from purchase
- Shares its fitment with the road element in this box, so the two can be exchanged
What a paddock supplies that a garage does not
A competition machine is surrounded by conditions the part cannot bring along by itself: an engine stripped on an hour count, an element looked at between sessions rather than between services, a surface swept before anyone rides on it, and a rider holding full throttle for the length of a straight several times a lap. Those four things are what make a wider opening and a very high flow rating sensible. Take them away and the element keeps its specification but loses its argument — the same cloth, in air it was not chosen for, feeding an engine that is not asking for it.
The honest position for a road SR-S
An SR-S 450 kept for the road is better served by the standard P08 in the same housing, which costs near enough a third of this one and filters slightly finer for it. Nothing is given up by choosing it: the road medium is equally dry, equally washable, equally a direct fit. And whichever of the two goes in, the effect on performance is the same, which is to say none worth quoting — a drop-in filter does not make a standard SR-S 450 noticeably stronger. This element earns its place on a machine that races, and it is listed here on that understanding.
Care and cleaning
The service is the same whichever medium sits in the box, and it consumes nothing. Compressed air, held to the clean side of the PM270S F1-85 and moved across the panel, sends the load back out the way it arrived. Where a track weekend has left more than air will shift, lukewarm water and a small amount of mild detergent will do it, followed by a full rinse. Then it dries in open air at its own speed — no heat gun, no radiator, no flame — and returns to the housing dry and untreated. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
