What It Is
At 46 mm, 49 mm it fits one position only; the next size up carries a different number. Corrosion inside a tube is terminal: it cannot be honed out without changing the clearance. A scored bore means lost damping, because the oil bypasses the piston rather than being forced through the shims. Öhlins gives the tube its diameter and its working length as a pair — a tube of the same bore but different length belongs to a different unit.
Original Öhlins Part
Öhlins keeps service parts available for units long after they leave the current price list. Öhlins supports its suspension with individual service parts, which is why a fifteen-year-old damper can still be rebuilt to specification. Where a number has been superseded, Öhlins states the replacement — we pass that on. For a full rebuild, the seal kit plus the wear parts is usually the sensible order.
Getting the Number Right
Order under 26201-07. Where several sizes share a description, only the number separates them. Öhlins states diameter 46 mm, length 49 mm for this number, and those figures are the deciding ones. Tubes are replaced when the bore is marked; polishing them out changes the clearance and makes it worse. Surface finish is specified in microns, because it decides how quickly the piston band wears.
Fitting and Setup Service
If you would rather not open the damper yourself, we can do it — we are an authorised Öhlins service centre and rebuild these units as a matter of routine.
