DescriptionThe whole story▼
A 1290 Super Adventure R that has been used as intended comes home dirty: mud caked on the crash bars, grit around the controls, water in places it should not be. The left lever gets more of it than most parts, because it sits at the end of the bar where the spray from a river crossing arrives first. The Accossato ESA090 is a CNC-machined aluminium clutch lever for the 1290 Super Adventure R, listed from 2017 to 2020, with an anodised finish and an adjustable reach.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the KTM 1290 Super Adventure R, 2017 to 2020
- Mounts at the original clutch mounting
- Anodised finish without paint
- Adjustable reach
- Short, standard (approximately 138 mm) and long blades
- Seven colours, all on a black hub
- CNC-machined aluminium, no folding joint
Construction and Material Quality
Anodising is well suited to a lever that is regularly scrubbed. After the ESA090 has been machined from aluminium, the outer layer of the metal is converted into a hard oxide that holds the colour within it, so brushing and rinsing do not wear through a coat of paint. The hub, containing the pivot and the reach adjuster, is always black, while the blade is finished in the colour you choose. The lever is fixed, one piece from end to end, so there is no hinge in which mud could pack.
After Mud and River Crossings
Washing a bike after an off-road day takes water, a soft brush and patience, and the controls deserve a moment of their own. Rinse the dirt out of the gap between lever and mounting before it dries, then work the lever a few times to check that it moves freely and returns fully. Grit trapped at the pivot shows itself as a rough or sticky action; if that persists, take the lever off and clean the pivot properly before the next ride. Avoid aiming a pressure washer straight at the pivot, where it can drive dirt in rather than wash it out. The anodised surface itself needs no special treatment. On a 1290 Super Adventure R that crosses rivers and churns through mud, a clutch that engages and disengages cleanly is part of what gets you home, and a clean lever is where that starts. A soft cloth to dry the blade afterwards completes the job.
Fitment and Compatibility
This clutch lever covers the 1290 Super Adventure R from 2017 to 2020 and replaces the original lever at the stock clutch mounting. Accossato's catalogue entry reaches further back, yet the R only joined KTM's range for 2017, which is why the product begins there. The EDD001 brake lever covers the same bike and years, so the two can be ordered together in one colour.
Road Approval
Without documented German road approval (ABE), this ESA090 is supplied for track use.
