DescriptionThe whole story▼

The MT-09 SP was built for riders who enjoy adjusting things. Yamaha gave it a higher-specification suspension with more settings than the standard MT-09, and owners who take the time to set up fork and shock soon realise that the brake lever deserves the same attention, since it is the control through which every stop begins. The Accossato EDF016 is a CNC-machined aluminium brake lever for the MT-09 SP of 2018 and 2019, mounted on the original master cylinder, with a distance to the grip that you set yourself.

Key Features

  • Brake lever for the MT-09 SP, 2018 and 2019
  • Mounts on the SP's original master cylinder
  • Adjustable reach, with the adjuster close to the pivot
  • Three blade lengths, the standard one about 138 mm
  • Black hub, blade in black, silver, blue, red, gold, green or orange
  • Rigid aluminium lever, CNC-machined and anodised
  • No German ABE documented, sold for track use

Construction and Material Quality

The EDF016 is milled on CNC machines from aluminium and anodised once the machining is complete. Its black hub is where the adjustment happens: it carries the pivot bore and the reach adjuster. Hub and blade form one continuous piece, without a folding section, and the blade is anodised in the colour you select. A lever made this way has no cast surfaces and no hidden joint; the pressure you apply at the tip goes directly to the master cylinder. For riders who judge a bike by its feedback, that directness is the reason to choose a fixed design.

A Set-Up Session for the Front End

Suspension settings and lever settings belong together, because both shape what the front end tells you under braking. A sensible routine on the MT-09 SP is to start with the lever before touching the clickers. Sit on the bike in your usual gloves, reach for the brake as you would when riding, and turn the adjuster until the blade meets your fingers at the first joint with the wrist straight. Choose the blade length with the same care: two-finger braking suits the short blade, four fingers the long one, and the standard version sits in between. Then ride a familiar stretch of road and pay attention to how the fork compresses as you brake. With your own input consistent, the effect of any damping change is far easier to judge. Write down the adjuster position alongside your suspension settings, so that you can return to a known baseline after experimenting. That kind of record keeping is exactly what the SP invites.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists this lever for the MT-09 SP of the 2018 and 2019 model years. It replaces the stock blade on the original master cylinder, and the rest of the brake stays as Yamaha built it. For the clutch side of the MT-09 SP, Accossato names the ESY688, which shares the black hub and colour range; note that it differs from the clutch lever listed for the standard MT-09.

Road Approval

Road use in Germany is not covered, since no ABE has been documented for the EDF016; we sell it for the track.
