The Rally exists to shorten the dull half of a long day: a bigger tank, a screen and a fairing, so the tarmac transit to the interesting ground can be ridden in one go. That is exactly the problem the air filter has to solve: one element covers both halves of the day and cannot be changed where the surface does. It has to be chosen for the half that does the damage, not for the half that fills the odometer. The Sprint Filter PM255ST12 is the answer for riders whose big tank really is emptied on unsealed roads: a dry polyester special non-woven filtering to 7 microns at a rated 560 l/m²/sec.
Key Features
- A dry polyester special non-woven, filtering to 7 microns for extreme and off-road conditions
- Rated airflow 560 l/m²/sec — the finest medium in the range, with the flow figure to match
- Fits the series airbox as the original element does: no modification, no remapping
- Never oiled, so nothing on the medium can travel further into the intake
- Compressed air restores it, and it goes back into the same motorcycle
- A twenty-four month guarantee applies from the date of sale
One stage, two kinds of air
On the transit half the machine is on sealed road at a steady cruise, where a 300 cc single runs at part throttle and asks for a fraction of what its intake can give. The flow the T12 sets aside is not flow the engine is reaching for there: the restriction is present, but it lands in reserve. On the second half it inverts — dry piste, gravel and other people's dust, where the suspended fine fraction is what actually gets drawn in and 7 microns of retention is worth having. Since one element covers both, this is the sensible way round to decide: the clean half tolerates a fine medium far better than the dirty half tolerates a coarse one.
When the P08 is the better balance
Plenty of CRF300 Rallys are touring bikes with a gravel detour rather than piste bikes with a road link. The trade is stated in the figures: 80 microns at 5,050 l/m²/sec for the P08, 14 microns at 1,800 for the P14, 7 microns at 560 for the T12. Finer means more retained and less passed, every time. If your riding is mostly asphalt with motorway stages, the P08 is the better-balanced element and there is nothing to apologise for in choosing it; the P14 sits in between for dusty touring. Buy the finest medium because your route is dusty, not because it is the finest.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air is the everyday method: on the clean side of the PM255ST12, blowing the dust back out towards the dirty face. After a long dry stage, lukewarm water with a mild detergent does the rest; rinse until the water runs clear, then give the element open air and enough time, because heat or a flame destroys it. It is refitted dry, with no oil of any kind applied. Sprint Filter designs the element to last the life of the motorcycle, and the maintenance sheet sits in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Honda CRF300 Rally, model years 2021 to 2026. The same element covers three machines in this family; the list is in the Fitment tab.
