Filters are usually judged by how dirty they look, which is close to the opposite of how they should be judged. What makes an element look dirty is coarse material — grit, chaff, insects — and that fraction is caught by anything in reasonable condition and does comparatively little harm. The material that wears a bore and a ring pack is fine, light and largely invisible on the medium, and it is precisely the fraction where the difference between an 80 micron weave and a 14 micron one is decided. The Sprint Filter P14 PM198P14 is built for that difference: a dry non-woven medium at 14 microns, in the standard Yamaha Vixion R 155 airbox.
Key Features
- Dry non-woven medium filtering to 14 microns; air flow 1,800 l/m²/sec
- Unoiled, so no film can reach the throttle body or the intake sensors
- About twice the filtering surface that other performance filters offer
- Replaces the original element in the standard airbox — nothing modified, no remap
- Washable and reusable; compressed air from the clean side is the service
- Two years of warranty, on a design meant to last the life of the motorcycle
Size, not quantity
Two elements can pass the same weight of material over a season and do quite different amounts of damage, because damage follows particle size rather than mass. It is also why the range moves in the direction it does: 85 microns for the racing medium, 80 for the standard P08, 14 for this one, each buying retention with flow. None of them is better than the others in the abstract. They answer different questions about what the air is carrying.
The cost of the finer weave, stated
A finer medium loads sooner — it has to, since it is catching material a coarser weave would have passed. So the P14 asks for the compressor more often than a P08 in the same airbox, and on dusty routes that means looking at it at every service rather than every second one. The compensation is that looking costs nothing: nothing is consumed, nothing is ordered, and the element that came out is the one that goes back. The generous filtering area — roughly double that of other performance filters — is what keeps that interval reasonable. It is also why the medium is dry rather than oiled. An oiled filter holds particles in a tacky film, and that film has somewhere to go under a strong enough airflow: the throttle body, the intake sensors, the valve stems. The P14 catches by weave alone, goes in dry and comes out dry.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air from the clean side, directed outwards, and back in dry. After a dusty stretch, wash the PM198P14 in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinse until the water runs clear and let it dry fully in air — never with heat, never with a flame. Oil is absent from the medium at every stage of its life. The Downloads tab holds the Sprint Filter maintenance sheet.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Yamaha Vixion R 155 from 2018 to 2026. The same PM198P14 element covers six machines across the 125 and 155 range; the complete list is in the Fitment tab.
