Proportion is a fair thing to raise on a small motorcycle. The P08 F1-85 costs several times what the standard P08 and the P14 cost, and on a Vixion R 155 it represents a serious fraction of what the whole machine is worth. That does not make it the wrong part — it makes it a part that has to be bought for a reason rather than as a general improvement, and the reason has to be competition. Racing is what the fabric is for: 15,000 l/m²/sec of air flow at a filtration of 85 microns, against the standard P08's 5,050 and 80.
Key Features
- The P08 F1-85 racing medium, flowing 15,000 l/m²/sec — the highest in the range
- Filtration to 85 microns, coarser than the road medium: that is the trade
- Dry polyester, unoiled: nothing reaches the throttle body or the sensors
- Replaces the original element in the standard airbox — no modification, no remap
- Washable and reusable, cleaned by compressed air on the clean side
- Two years of warranty, on a design meant to see out the motorcycle's life
Where the money goes further on this bike
For a Vixion R used on the road, the standard P08 does the job the F1-85 is being asked to do and does it with a finer weave, and the P14 at 14 microns does it better again where the air is dusty or the season is wet. Both cost a fraction of the racing medium. Recommending them here is not modesty about the product; it is that a coarser filter on a road-ridden small single is a downgrade with a price tag attached, and no description should make that sound like an upgrade.
The case where the price is justified
A Vixion R prepared for competition is a different proposition. Racing engines are opened on a schedule counted in running hours, so the coarser aperture never has time to matter; the flow is genuinely usable once intake, exhaust and mapping have been worked through; and a washable element removes a recurring cost from a season rather than adding one. Bought at that point, and used for that purpose, it earns what it costs. Bought instead of tyres, it does not. The same reasoning applies to the airbox itself, which is worth keeping through any preparation work. It silences intake noise, presents the engine with air at a settled temperature and pressure rather than whatever is passing the frame, and keeps water and road spray out of the intake — three functions that an open cone filter gives up in order to improve one. Replacing the fabric inside the box keeps all of them, and leaves the machine looking entirely standard from the outside.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air on the clean side, aimed outwards, then refit dry. A deeper clean calls for lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinsing until the water runs clear and full drying in air — never with heat, never near a flame. No medium here has an oiling stage, this one included. The Sprint Filter maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
