DescriptionThe whole story▼
A three-button left switch needs something to carry it behind the master cylinder. The JP BRSX is that clamp, machined from aluminium to match the JetPrime housing exactly.
Key Features
- Rear clamp for a left three-button JetPrime handlebar switch
- CNC-machined aluminium
- Matches the JetPrime switch housing
- Supplied as a separate component
- No modification to the handlebar
What a Rear Clamp Does
A JetPrime switch does not bolt to the handlebar on its own. On the left side it is carried by a clamp that sits behind the master cylinder and holds the housing at the correct angle and distance from the grip. Some switches come with one; others expect it to be bought separately, which is where this part comes in.
Matched to the Housing
The clamp is machined for the three-button left switch specifically. Bolt spacing, curvature and the depth of the seat are all cut to that housing, which is why the button count is in the part number rather than being a detail in the specification.
Replacing a Damaged One
The clamp is the part that takes the impact when a bike falls on its left side. Replacing it is considerably cheaper than replacing the switch, and buying one separately is the reason this is listed as its own item rather than only as part of a kit.
Why the Button Count Is in the Number
JetPrime cut each clamp for a specific housing, because the seat length and the mounting positions follow from how many buttons the switch carries. A three-button clamp will not hold a four-button unit squarely, and forcing it puts the load on two fasteners that were never meant to take it. The count is part of the specification rather than a description.
Aluminium and a Handlebar
The clamp is the only thing between the switch and the bar, and it carries the whole assembly through vibration, weather and whatever the rider's knee does to it in a fall. It is machined from aluminium for the same reason the switch is: a moulded part at this position works until the first time it does not.
Left and Right Are Not Mirrored
It would be convenient if one clamp served both sides. It does not, because the left of a handlebar carries a clutch lever and the right carries a brake master cylinder, and the two sit at different distances from the grip. JetPrime make a separate part for each side, and the reference makes clear which is which.
