DescriptionThe whole story▼
Fifteen thousand nine hundred revolutions per minute. That is where Akrapovic measured the power gain on this exhaust, and it is the highest figure in this entire catalogue — because the ZX-25R is a 250 cc inline four, a configuration almost nobody builds any more.
Key Features
- Gains measured at 15,900 rpm — the highest engine speed in this catalogue
- 2.28 kg against the standard 3.82 kg: 1.54 kg and 40.3 per cent less
- Hand-crafted carbon fibre with a titanium end cap
- More compact shape, matched to the bike's sporty lines
- Power and torque increases through the range
- Removable noise insert included
A 250 With Four Cylinders
Kawasaki revived a format last seen in the 1990s: four tiny cylinders, sixteen valves and a redline past sixteen thousand. It makes 43 PS, which any modern 250 twin matches, and it makes them in a way nothing else on sale does.
An exhaust on this engine is working with the sound as much as the numbers. A screaming inline four at fifteen thousand revs is the entire reason the motorcycle exists.
Why the Figures Are Small
0.8 PS and 0.3 Nm. On a 43 PS engine already tuned to the edge of what a 250 can do, there is very little left, and Akrapovic publishes what there is rather than rounding it up.
The 1.54 kg is the more meaningful number. On a 184 kg motorcycle taken from high on the right-hand side, that is a change a rider will feel where 0.8 PS is not.
Approval: We Are Checking
Akrapovic's data for this part records no type approval, and its description does not name one either. That is unusual for a slip-on aimed at a road-registered machine, and rather than guess we will confirm the current certificate with Akrapovic on request.
Assume track use until we can tell you otherwise. If the approval matters to your purchase, ask us before ordering.
Where the ZX-25R Is Sold
Kawasaki built the ZX-25R primarily for Japan and Southeast Asia, where 250 cc is a licence and tax class. European availability has been limited and largely through import, which is part of why the approval situation for accessories is less settled than on a mainstream model.
A Compact Silencer for a Compact Bike
Akrapovic shortened the muffler compared with the standard unit. On a machine built around a 250 cc engine in a full-size chassis, the standard silencer looks oversized — it has to be, to meet noise limits with four cylinders screaming.
