DescriptionThe whole story▼
The rear brake of a sports bike spends its life cold. On a Bimota BB3 1000 it is touched for a second at a time, then left alone for miles, and when a summer ride ends in a thunderstorm it is asked to work wet and stone cold at once. Accossato's answer is the Sintered (ST) version of the AGPA42 rear pad, which the company builds to hold its grip regardless of temperature, listed for the BB3 1000 from 2014 to 2018.
Key Features
- Rear pads for the Bimota BB3 1000, 2014 to 2018
- Article number AGPA42ST: the AGPA42 shape in the Sintered (ST) material
- Accossato reports constant grip at high and low temperatures and sure behaviour in the wet
- Two pads to a box, the pair for the rear caliper
- The OR and ZXC versions use the same shape
- Accossato lists no front pad and no disc for this Bimota
- No German ABE recorded; offered for competition use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato's description of the Sintered (ST) material is about consistency: a high grip level that does not move as the temperature does, and a friction face that keeps its footing on a wet disc. For a rear brake that is a better match than it first appears. Front pads on a BB3 1000 may see real heat on a fast road; the rear rarely does, so a material that needed warming up would spend its whole working life below the temperature it was built for.
The Pedal in a Downpour
Rain changes how a heavy sports bike is ridden. The front brake is used more gently, the rear is used more than it would be in the dry, and both are asked to work through a film of water. A BB3 1000 on wet tarmac benefits from a rear brake the rider can lean on lightly to settle the chassis before a roundabout, without wondering whether the first touch will do nothing and the second will lock the wheel.
A wet ride leaves salt and grime behind it, especially late in the year. Rinse the rear end when the bike comes home rather than letting it dry on, and check occasionally that the caliper slides freely and that both pads are wearing at the same rate. Fit new material in pairs, bed it in with a few firm applications on a quiet road, and clean the pistons before they are pushed back in, since grit dragged into the seals is what makes a rear brake bind.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato names the AGPA42 for the rear of the Bimota BB3 1000 over the 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 model years. There is no Accossato pad listed for the front wheel of this bike and no disc in the programme for it, so the rear is the only place a BB3 1000 owner will find an entry. The rear caliper takes one box, and both of its pads should be changed at the same time.
Road Approval
The AGPA42ST arrives without a German ABE and without any test report, which is why it is listed for competition use only.
Scope of Delivery
