Every figure on this page describes the part going in. None of them describes the part coming out. There is no published micron rating and no flow figure for the paper panel in the Speciale's airbox, and no honest comparison can be built against a number that does not exist. So the comparison worth making is the one the catalogue supports: this nonwoven against the woven element offered for the same housing.
Key Features
- Rated at 14 microns of filtration, from a dry special nonwoven rather than a woven cloth
- Rated flow of 1,800 litres per square metre per second; the P08 alternative for this airbox is rated at 80 microns and 5,050
- Depth filtration — fibres crossing at random in layers, so retention happens inside the material
- Roughly double the area of an ordinary performance element, folded into the standard airbox
- Replaces the original panel directly, with no modification to the airbox and no change to the mapping
- Dry, unoiled and washable, intended to last the life of the bike, with two years of warranty from purchase
Two numbers, both measured
Each medium in this range carries two published figures: a filtration grade in microns and a flow rate in litres per square metre per second. Those are the measured facts. Here, 14 and 1,800. For the standard element, 80 and 5,050. For the extreme grade, 7 and 560 — and that one the catalogue lists against a single machine in this family, which is not a Panigale. Everything past those figures is judgment: which set suits the roads a particular Speciale is actually ridden on. Retention percentages have been published as well, but they were measured on the woven media against a stated particle size. They do not carry across to a nonwoven, and none is quoted for this one.
Where the certainty ends
What can be stated: this element is finer and it flows less, by the amounts above. What cannot be stated is any multiple against the original Ducati panel, because that panel comes with no specification to multiply. What can also be stated is the dull truth about power — no slot-in filter makes a standard V4S Speciale quicker, and a fine one surrenders intake headroom instead of adding any. The reason to fit it is the specification standing between the road and the inlet tract, on a machine that will be kept and ridden for years rather than traded on.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air from the clean side outward is the whole routine, driving the trapped load back out along its entry path. Greasy dirt washes out with lukewarm water and a mild detergent, followed by a rinse until the water runs clean. Drying is done in moving air at room temperature, with no heat gun and no flame, and the PM160P14 is refitted dry and untreated. The maintenance sheet is filed in the Downloads tab of this page.
Fitment & Compatibility
Catalogued for the Ducati Panigale V4S Speciale of 2018 and 2019. The same code covers five further machines: the Panigale V4R, the Panigale V4 /S/SP, the V4S Corse, the Diavel V4 and the XDiavel V4, six entries in total. Order on the code and confirm the build year.
