The 890 V2 platform is new enough that nothing has settled around it. There is no consensus yet about what to fit, no second-hand parts market, and no owner three seasons in to say what the airbox looked like at the last service. What exists is a catalogue, and for the 2026 Hypermotard V2 it is unusually generous: Sprint Filter lists all four of its media for this housing, and PM279S F1-85 is the fastest-flowing of them.
Key Features
- Woven polyester used dry from new, with no oil at the factory and none after washing
- The racing specification: 85 µm between the threads, rated at 15,000 l/m²/sec
- Measured retention of 95.22 % on 100-micron particles, where the P08 weave gave 93.13 %
- Roughly twice the filtering fabric of other performance elements, in the standard frame
- A straight swap for the paper panel: no cutting, no repositioning, no remap
- Cleaned and refitted for as long as the bike is kept; two years of warranty from purchase
Four cloths for one housing
The Hypermotard V2 is the only machine on this platform listed for every one of Sprint Filter's media. At one end a T12 non-woven at 7 µm and 560 l/m²/sec for extreme conditions, then a P14 at 14 µm and 1,800 for dust, then the standard P08 weave at 80 µm and 5,050. This element is at the far end, at 85 µm and 15,000. The pattern is plain: a finer structure holds more back and lets less through, and a more open one does the reverse. It is a trade, not a ladder with a best rung, and with all four available the decision is genuinely the rider's.
Deciding without a precedent
With no accumulated habit to lean on, the honest method is to describe the year ahead, not the motorcycle. A supermoto spending it in traffic, on short errands and the odd fast Sunday never holds the sustained wide-open demand a rating of 15,000 l/m²/sec exists to serve, while the more open weave sits in the intake for all of those hours regardless. That points to the P08 for most Hypermotards, and further down the range for loose surfaces. Whichever goes in will not make a standard Hypermotard V2 noticeably stronger: intake, injection and exhaust were homologated together with a filter already in the path. What is on offer is an intake resistance that can be put back where it started, rather than one that only climbs.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air does nearly all of it. Hold the line against the clean face of the PM279S F1-85 and drive the load outward, the way it came in. Where a wet spell has left a film air will not move, hand-warm water with a mild detergent will, rinsed until the run-off is clear. Drying is ambient and patient, since heat destroys polyester: no hot-air gun, no radiator, no flame. It goes back in dry and untreated; the maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Catalogued for the Ducati Hypermotard V2 of 2026, in the standard airbox in place of the paper element. Five machines on Ducati's 890 V2 engine share this part number, each with its model years in the Fitment tab — worth checking against yours on a range this young.
