Sprint Filter P08 F1-85 Air Filter for Racing – BMW R 1200 RS (2014–2018) K142S F1-85

This part number carries the R 1200 RS twice. Once for 2014 to 2018 and once for 2015 to 2018, on one element, in one housing, with the same specification against both entries. It is a duplication in the source list rather than two different products, and the practical consequence is small but worth stating: whichever of the two windows your registration year falls into, the element in the box is this one.

Reading a fitment list that repeats itself

Sprint Filter numbers its elements by housing, not by model name, and the lists are assembled from a price file in which one machine can appear under more than one year range. Where that happens the safe reading is the union of the windows, because the housing did not change halfway through. It also explains why the same RS shows a 2015 start against the other media for this box: the entries were written at different times, from different rows, about one airbox.

What the racing weave is for

One state, and it is a circuit state: throttle wide, high in the range, held for whole seconds and returned to repeatedly. The 15,000 l/m²/sec this cloth carries is a ceiling rather than a delivery, and the standard weave's 5,050 already hands over everything a faired road boxer has asked of it. Doubling the area doubles the ceiling; it does not create a demand for it. What it does not do at any size is add power — an element inside an untouched airbox leaves a standard R 1200 RS exactly as strong as it was. By Sprint Filter's own account this is the most-used filter in MotoGP and World Superbike, which is a statement about race paddocks.

Care and cleaning

A woven cloth surrenders its load readily, and the larger panel only means a few more passes with the nozzle. Direct the air at the inner face and push outwards so the dust exits the way it arrived; the reverse direction sets it into the weave. Anything left after that — usually a thin road film — lifts with hand-warm water and a very small quantity of mild detergent, rinsed off until the water no longer discolours. It must then dry through in open moving air, with heat of every kind kept away from it, before the K142S F1-85 goes back into the housing. The servicing sheet is under the Downloads tab.
