Semi-Active Öhlins
The Factory of this generation adjusted its damping continuously from the inertial platform. On a superbike the weight moves between the wheels faster than any static setting can accommodate, and the difference is felt at turn-in.
Winglets, Before Everyone Else
Aprilia fitted aerodynamic appendages to the fairing while most rivals were still deciding whether they were legal. The MotoGP department had been developing them for several seasons and they work at circuit speed.
Reordered for Braking
The blue button sits at the bottom of the column rather than second. Under heavy braking the thumb arrives at the end of the row first, and the race layout is built around that rather than around appearance.
Between Sessions and Within Them
Suspension mode, engine map and traction level are all changed from here. A Factory owner adjusts them as the track and the tyre change, which is a great many operations on a small number of contacts.
The Revised Layout Only
This unit fits the revised control assembly. Anything built before the update needs the TC version, and the distinction is in the mounting and internals rather than in anything a photograph shows.
Four Anodised Finishes
Black, blue, red and titanium, converted into the aluminium. Titanium sits nearest the Factory's gold components without attempting to match them, which generally reads better than an approximate match.
Enclosed Contacts
Military-specification elements sealed within the machined body. A track bike is washed hot after every session and the pressure washer is what ends most switchgear, not the mileage.
No Wiring Work
The loom terminates in Aprilia's original plug. The bike can be returned to standard for a sale in the same fifteen minutes it took to change.
