DescriptionThe whole story▼

A passenger seat is not really what the Forty-Eight Special is built for, but plenty get fitted with one anyway, and once there is weight on the back of this short, compact bobber the softer Organic rear pad starts to feel less certain in the wet. Accossato's Sintered (ST) compound for the XL1200XS, built in the 2019 and 2020 model years, is the firmer alternative for exactly that situation, or simply for riding through colder, wetter months rather than only on dry weekends.

Key Features

  • Sintered (ST) compound for the Forty-Eight Special XL1200XS rear caliper
  • Listed by Accossato for the 2019 and 2020 model years
  • High, constant grip claimed by the maker at hot and cold temperatures
  • Keeps biting once the disc has picked up rain
  • Suited to two-up riding and year-round use
  • Alternative OR rear compound exists for the same caliper
  • Two pads per box, enough for one rear caliper

Construction and Material Quality

What Accossato promises with this ST mixture is evenness: much the same strong grip whether the pad has only just started working or has been hot for a while, with no sudden loss of bite once the disc meets rain. Carrying a passenger on the Forty-Eight Special's small, stepped seat shifts real weight onto the rear wheel, and that extra load is precisely where a compound built to behave the same way in any condition earns its keep over the softer, fair-weather Organic option.

Consistent Grip Behind a Striking Front End

The Forty-Eight Special's fat front tyre draws most of the attention, but the rear brake does plenty of work too, especially once a passenger or a full tank adds weight to a bike that is already short and compact. This Sintered set holds its bite through that extra load and through changing weather, so the rear pedal feels the same on a cold, wet evening as it did on a warm, dry one back in summer.

Fitment and Compatibility

Only the 2019 and 2020 model years of the Forty-Eight Special XL1200XS are covered by this rear pad, a short production span, so please check your build year closely. The softer OR rear compound remains the alternative on this identical caliper for riders who keep the bike solo and mostly dry.

Road Approval

No approval paperwork, such as a German ABE or a type approval mark, is available to us for this pad, so it is listed for racing and competition use where such documentation is required for road riding. Please check your own country's rules first.

Scope of Delivery

Two brake pads in the box, one set for a single rear caliper. Mounting hardware such as pins or springs is not part of the package.
