DescriptionThe whole story▼

The last hour of a long ride is the one that matters. The light has gone, the temperature has dropped several degrees since the afternoon, the road is damp under the trees and the rider is tired enough that decisions take a fraction longer. A Ducati SuperSport 950 S, with its adjustable suspension and shift assistant, makes that hour easier than most sports machines do. Accossato covers its two front calipers with the AGPA177 pad, and article AGPA177ST is the Sintered version, described by the maker as keeping a high, even grip level hot or cold and as coping with wet faces. The listing starts in 2020.

Key Features

  • Front brake pads for the Ducati SuperSport 950 S, 2020 to 2024
  • AGPA177ST: the AGPA177 shape in the Sintered material
  • Accossato promises an even grip level regardless of disc temperature
  • Wet discs are covered by the same description
  • Two calipers at the front, so two boxes for a complete change
  • Two pads to a box, the set for one caliper
  • The shape is also pressed in EV1, EV2 and ZXC
  • No German ABE on file; supplied for competition

Construction and Material Quality

Consistency is a safety feature dressed up as a technical one. If a given pull at the lever produces the same deceleration at ten at night on a cold, damp lane as it did at two in the afternoon on warm tarmac, a tired rider does not have to recalibrate anything, and that is the whole argument for this material. The maker puts it as a high and constant grip level across the temperature range, with water on the faces included. Below the surface sits the AGPA177 carrier shared by all versions of the article, so a SuperSport 950 S can be moved between compounds without the caliper noticing.

The Last Hour Home in the Dark

Night changes the information a rider works with. Depth is harder to judge, the edge of the road disappears into the hedge, and a wet patch looks identical to a dry one until the tyres are on it. Most riders respond by slowing down, which is right, but the subtler problem is that everything now happens with less warning: the deer, the diesel, the car that pulls out of a farm entrance without looking.

That puts a premium on brakes that behave predictably rather than dramatically. Set the headlight so it reaches far enough on an unlit road, keep the visor clean, and clear the front of the helmet at every stop rather than waiting until the smears become a problem. Space out the last leg of a journey with a break, because fatigue costs more than the twenty minutes it takes to drink something hot. And before an autumn trip, look at the friction material in both front calipers of the SuperSport 950 S while there is daylight to see it, rather than finding out on a cold road at nine in the evening.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato's front entry for the SuperSport 950 S covers 2020 to 2024. With two discs and a caliper on each, a full change means two boxes. The rear of the bike runs the AGPA42 across the same seasons, one box being the whole of it. The disc programme lists two references against this model, the DK053 and the DKS053, and they are not the same part, so an original should be measured first. The shape is shared with other machines, which is why the article number belongs on the order.

Road Approval

An ABE for the AGPA177ST has never been issued to us and there is no German test report on file, so the pads are sold as competition parts for closed courses.

Scope of Delivery

One box with two AGPA177 pads in the Sintered material, which fills a single caliper. Two boxes complete the front of the SuperSport 950 S.
